(SPOILERS) Personally, I was a little underwhelmed. My biggest gripe is that they let the stupid teenager live. There wasn't any explanation on how he survived, and it made the ending too happy. I also wish Spielberg had used something else to kill the aliens in the end, I mean, I like Wells's ending and all, but we've already seen it in the book, the radio broadcast, the original movie, and the Jeff Wayne musical. I would've liked to see something new, this time. Not to say it was a bad movie, there's plenty of cool bits, like the river scene, or the plane wreck. And the special effects are top notch, way better than a lot of movies that rely on CGI at this level. And I think we're all glad that Spielberg didn't make this into another America-saves-the-World movie like Independence Day. It's worth seeing, overall, but don't expect anything life-changing. -A Genius (And is it just me, or did the aliens seem kind of inept here? Just asking.) |

| Super Bodyguard & King of the Arcade | I saw it today, too. It was decent I guess...though I didn't read the book so I was a bit confused with the ending and all. I like the fact that they threw in alot of humor in the beginning of the movie...though the whole baseball-throwing thing was a bit cliche, with the two teams they had on their hats and all. Why couldn't Cruise wear a Mets hat? |

I also can't stand Dakota Flanning and her one emotion; fear. And that Soylent Red (It's People!) was never explained, really. I'll say C+ overall. |

| Super Bodyguard & King of the Arcade | Up close they really didn't look very scary actually. |

Really, the only iffy I can say I have about this film is the over-sentimentality at the end (which should, at this point, be expected from Speilberg). Also, I didn't mind the ending. Even though the, above mentioned, over-sentimentality, clouded it over a bit, the message, with the ending, is that human beings are lucky to be even living at all. Sure it's anti-climactic, but that's the point. |

That's what really blew the old one for me; no living being would evolve with a tri-colored floodlight for a head. And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" |

I hadn't read or seen any other version prior to seeing this, so I didn't expect this at all. I think they could have easily let Robbie die, and no one would really feel bad about it. |

I loved the first half, Spielberg done it so well, the lightning bit couldn't have been done better and the bit with all the people around that one car. Intense. After that came all the suspence (far too much in my opinion, I mean after that big tentacle thing went out was enough, and then the aliens come in and spend a pointless 10 minutes or so rummaging) which was ok, and then they got picked up etc and then it kind of felt like a normal blockbuster again. They should've just let the kid die though. |

I was extremely pleased with it. I remember how when I was younger and first read WotW and was astounded by the brilliance of how the aliens died. I was however extemely disappointed that Robbie didn't die. The rest of the family I could excuse, it would be in the realm of possibilty for them to possibly escape death, but the kid? c'mon.. I was also pleased with how the aliens were done. Much better than anything I was expecting. --- ~Katsuchiyo (Yes, We are one in the same. (Battling Profile) :/) |
