I was just reading some comic-con reports about the Doom movie on AICN, and apparently all things they were apparently doing with the movie turned out to be a huge misunderstanding.

You can read the articles for yourself, but:
</font>
  • The movie DOES take place on Mars</font>
  • The movie DOES feature the classic monsters (though it's still sketchy on where they come from)</font>
  • The movie DOES feature lots of gore</font>
  • Heck, the movie even features First Person Shooting</font>
Here are the articles:

Now I'm looking forward to the movie. THis actually sounds pretty damn good, especially just for some mindless entertainment.

Not that I didn't expect it, but even with all the contrasting changes from the initial script, it totally ****s on classic Doom fans. Then again, Doom 3 sort of did, too. **** you, John Carmack. I hope John Romero slits your throat in the night.

And my finger is extended to the Rock. I hate wrestlers. He had better die in this movie.

John Romero gave us Daikatana. Nobody cares about John Romero. Doom 3 being more relevant to today's audience helps in the decision to base the movie on that game too, I imagine.

Yeah, but he was the brains behind the concepts for Wolfenstein, Doom, and Quake. id is just any standard uninventive commercial house without him.

As long as they don't base it on that comic.

The closest thing to an official Doom movie site so far.

Games to movies never translate well. And movies to games tend not to translate either so I'm not expecting this to be an exeption to the rule.

It should make a decent movie. I don't see much of Doom in it, though, aside from the lookalike monsters and the chainsaw, which were pretty sweet. Plus 10 points for using a song I like (Switchback - Celldweller) in the trailer, though Spineshank would suit the film better. There had better not be music with lyrics during the film. Really ruins the mood.

Though you have to agree that the decision to include FPS in the movie is pretty neat.

Anyway here's some monster pics that were linked from AICN a little while ago:
