And I for one am not going to see it.

But I did see The Rock with Jon Stewart tonight; that was pretty cool. He brought the BFG with him. Stewart asked him how to open a storage unit in the game. Rock knew. Fun times.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I'm going to see it, because a friend's going, and I'm not one to miss a time out. Definitely going to see it before they jack up the prices for night, though.

^ I RARELY go to night shows. Too pricey (except on Tuesdays when it's the same price as matinees)

1-up on that: I go almost exclusively to rush hour shows. Even cheaper than matinees.

Saw it today. It was predictably shoddy - like they had begrudgingly accepted the title's origin, so used a monster modeled after Doom 3's imp. They... completely missed the point, too. I mean, the most extravagant monster in it is the "Pinky", which they managed to make lame by having some dork mutate into it (with no explanation as to why it was any different from the others.. I loved that) - and they took the whole movie to kill the stupid wrestler. Of course, they couldn't show him die, because that wouldn't leave room for a sequel. A sequel will never happen. And let's not forget that imps without fireballs are sadly no longer imps.

^ Thanks for including the (SPOILER) tag *sarcasm*

Not that it matters for me, since I just saw the movie today.

I liked the movie better than A.I. did. Though for the most part it's because I am not a purist.

I always look at movies as films first, adaptations second.

The movie in itself was pretty entertaining. The FPS scene was very well done, and I actually wish there was more than that. While I wish there were more types of monsters (the movie only had zombies, Imps, and the aformented "Pinky"), it was a fun popcorn flick and I hope those purists realize that it could have been worse.

^ While I trust Roger Ebert above all movie critics, the second he said "I have never played the game" I stopped reading.

Well, you said you look at movies as movies before adaptations. So what's wrong with Ebert judging it just as a movie (and a bad one at that)? It also meant he had a totally neutral opinion of Doom, so could go in without the bias of "Well, it's Doom, so that bumps it up a few points."

^ OK, you got me there. But, still the review is biased against action/horror movies (I finished reading it).

That's why I don't really like reviews anymore, because there are people who will have different opinions. I see a movie because I want to. These critics only see these kind of movies because they have to (and I have rarely seen a genre film get a good review).

He said he liked Total Recall, which had Arnold drilling a guy in the head and using some dead guy's corpse as a shield.

Here's another one that isn't biased against Action/Horror films, just halfassed Aliens ripoffs.

^ I'm not getting into a biased/unbiased flame war about this.

I liked the movie, end of story.

I honestly don't care what anybody else feels about it, since they all have the right to their own opinion.

^ OK, let me get this straight: there NO SUCH THING as a good movie and a bad movie!

In my opinion, for every movie there will be people who like it and people who don't.

The view that movie reviews try to convey is that "if I like/don't like a movie, then you should feel the same way"

But, that is FAR from the truth

OK, let's see what people REALLY think about Doom:

IMDB allows people to vote on a scale of 1-10, on what they think about movies.

Currently 1227 IMDB users voted and the tally comes out to this:
</font><blockquote>code:</font><hr /><pre style="font-size:x-small; font-family: monospace;">Votes Percentage Rating
401 32.7% 10
79 6.4% 9
121 9.9% 8
159 13.0% 7
114 9.3% 6
63 5.1% 5
41 3.3% 4
59 4.8% 3
45 3.7% 2
145 11.8% 1</pre>[/quote]Now, as you can see, different people have different views about the movie. There are people who think it's good, there are people who think it's bad, and there are many people in between. (BTW 10 and 1 ratings are always the highest 2 ratings on IMDB, since some people don't bother with the range and just do 10 for good and 1 for bad).

Now A.I., I won't dispute your claim that the movie is bad, but I am not allowing you to force that opinion onto me or others, because, as the old saying says, someone's junk is someone else's treasure (I'm not saying Doom is a masterpiece, but you get my drift)

You also liked NCEC.

If there's no such thing as a bad/good movie, then I guess there's no such thing as an anything movie, or part of a movie.

A nonsensical movie? The ghost in the Sweet Home movie kept whining about where her baby went when it was sitting in the grave she put it in thirty years ago, and when Emi handed the ghost the corpse of her dead baby (which is oddly well preserved for being thirty years old), the ghost responds like "You... found... my... baby...?" even though, as I said before, it was sitting in the grave where she put it thirty years ago. But since there's no such thing as a bad/stupid/nonsensical movie, then it's clearly my opinion that the movie didn't make any sense because the ghost kept whining about where her baby went when it was still in the grave she put it in thirty years ago.

A sad ending? Billy thought Old Yeller's ending was a laugh riot. It has nothing to do with his lack of taste, it's just his opinion.

I also love the way you scolded that one guy for calling Incredibles a trainwreck, then turn around and pour out this "There's no such thing as a good or bad movie because everybody has an opinion" junk.

And who's to say those scores are from people who actually liked the movie and not Doom fanboys who couldn't bear to see their precious with a one-star rating?

Doom didn't do anything well except fail. Perhaps if it were "made for tv", it would be passable in that medium. Then again, I think nearly all tv is ****. I'm sorry you enjoy low-quality films and "adaptations". And I'm not forcing my opinion on you, I'm stating my opinion here and now. It's not like I told you that you aren't allowed to like it.

That really isn't true. I mean, it's true in a wider-scale sense, but there are bad movies out there. And although I usually respect the opinions of others, there are also people that like bad movies regardless.

Freddy Got Fingered.

That was a a ****ing bad movie. Maybe some people thought it was funny. Does it make it any better? No it does not. Of course, most movies can't be shoved in those two categories.
