Silent Hill

Quote:
The eerie and deserted town of Silent Hill draws a young mother desperate to find a cure for her only child's illness. Unable to accept the doctor's diagnosis that her daughter should be permanently institutionalized for psychiatric care, Rose (Radha Mitchell) flees with her child, heading for the abandoned town in search of answers - and ignoring the protests of her husband (Sean Bean).
It's soon clear this place is unlike anywhere she's ever been. It's smothered by fog, inhabited by a variety of strange beings and periodically overcome by a living Darkness taht literally transforms everything it touches.
As Rose searches for her little girl, she begins to learn the history of the strange town and realizes that her daughter is just a pawn in a larger game.

This may very well be the industry's best attempt at a video game-based movie.
The fact that Pyramid Head is a part of this only makes it even better.

Saw the preview yesterday. Sounds encouraging.

But I don't watch really creepy movies under any circumstances.

When I saw the trailer it reminded me, until the very end of the trailer, of all of those Japanese horror remakes (most notablely The Ring)

Well, so long as Uwe Boll isn't directing, it has potential.

Where are these lemmings going? The Super Nintendo Super Shire! Hop in line and follow them there!

Thumbs up Silent Hill movie!

oh my god, that was the best game to movie translation I have ever seen! they pulled elements from all four silent hill games, they pulled the songs strait from the games! I don't want to spoil anything but I just want to say that yes Konami helped make this film.

FINALLY WE HAVE THE PERFECT VIDEOGAME MOVIE!!!!

I was considering seeing this, and may do after your glowing review.

However, I heard that it's hard to understand if you don't know the games.

not really, but then again I've played 3 & 4 so I knew what was going on but I think it's a great movie wether you've played Silent Hill games or not. btw, I will say that a certain enemy from Silent Hill 2 returns in this movie.

This movie completely sucked, don't bother. I'm the world's biggest wuss about scary movies and I was never truly scared even once.

Well, I decided not to see it. I've been reading reviews and it seems whether or not you will like it depends are whether you like the game, horror films (apparently this film is a bit on the gory side), or both.

It was up and down I'd say. The ups being that it looked amazing, captured the atmosphere of the game completely with both the foggy ghost town and the manic hellish alternate dimension looking like were straight from the game. I'm not a bit horror of gore fan but all the gorey stuff besides the barbed wire at the end just make me thing 'cooool' rather than 'yuk' which is always a good thing. Also creepy ash babies and pyramid head get two thumbs up.

Downs were that the second half was a lot of talking and I generally wasn't too interested in it. Then it all went very Wicker Man and it seemed pretty anti-climactic. Was as if they'd spent all their CGI money and still had half a movie to make.

All in all though I'd recommend catching it on the big screen since the disappointments were mainly the lack of more cool stuff happening.

If you were wondering why I decided not to see this film (so soon after saying I was considering to) is this line from a review on AICN:
Quote:
There is much blood spilled, and much red meat shown onscreen, so gorehounds are going to flip.
Now I will quote a line about my conditions for seeing this film that I wrote in my blog:
Quote:
The decision on whether or not I see this film may be based on whether it concentrates more on a spooky atmosphere (which I prefer) or a lot of gore (which I tend to avoid).

Gore has has never been my cup of tea and I'm kind of offended that people these days expect gore in horror films (a trend that has only been around over the last 30 years or so).

But, that discussion is for another day.

Continue talking about the film.

Thirty years is a long time for a trend to last in a medium this young.

actually there isn't THAT much gore. hmm, all I can remember were scenes towards the end of the film

1. pyramid head ripping someone's skin clean off their muscles like a shirt.

2. 2 burning scenes.

3. the scene where the nurse monsters get killed.

4. the barbed wire scene

and even then they don't show much.
