I dunno, I guess I just expected it to do better than 15 Million.

August has never been a good time for movies.

Still, the budget for this film was just $35 million. As such, if it keeps performing like it has, it will probably break even by the end of the month.

OK, just saw the film. I really enjoyed it. It's one of those "it's so cheesy it's good movies." I found it interesting that the first few snake attacks seemed to have been played (mostly) for laughs before full chaos ensued about 15 minutes later.

I could really tell that this film was a PG-13 edited into an R. Most of the gore and language was done in extreme close-ups (with a few offscreen F-words being obviously dubbed in). Even the infamous "Motherf&%$ing Snakes on the Motherf&%$ing Plane" line, which they have been playing on the radio (with, of course, the F-words bleeped) all weekend, seemed a little out of context with the scene that it's in.

However, all that aside, it was a fun film.

OK, I have been reading about the openning weekend and the signs seem to point that this film was a victim on it's own hype.

This quote from a "Globe and Mail" article seems to sum it up:
Quote:
The $15.2-million take is reasonable for the opening weekend of a horror film, so New Line will likely recoup costs that include a production budget of approximately $30-million. But it's an enormous disappointment after Snakes spent more than a year as fodder for Internet chat, jokes, gossip and spoofs, including hundreds of fake trailers.

"The Internet stuff was just fun that people were having with it, but I don't think that necessarily meant that those people wanted to see the movie," said [Paul] Dergarabedian. "Those who had made that decision based their decision more on the traditional marketing than on all this Internet buzz."

"Maybe the people involved in this seemed larger in numbers than they were," suggested Dave Waldon, the author of Snakes on a Plane: The Guide to the Internet Ssssssensation. "If you do a Google search for Snakes on a Plane and get 22 million hits, that's a vast amount, but it's only a couple of thousand people doing this, and doing a lot of it. That's not going to translate into a huge score unless they each go to the movie four or five times."
So, what do you think?

That surprises me. I thought it was a piece of marketing genius, and that everyone was gonna go see it. Weird.
