Thumbs up V For Vendetta

I saw V For Vendetta Friday night.

Pretty entertaining movie. Definitely NOT a movie to see if you are a Conservative/Republican.

The neatest sequence in the film was a climactic (and gory) knife fight done in Bullet-Time

More bullet time?

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Yeah, it's a little cliched these days ain't it.

I guess the Wachowski's want to keep using the process they made popular

It's not necessarily a very harrowing adaption to the comic series, I've heard, but I never read the series. I probably should read more comics, though. I used to be in love with them.

^ One thing I will always say about adaptations: There will always be purists who will never be happen with the final product (apparently Alan Moore himself doesn't like the movie, but he's hated all of the movies based on his stories).

Nothing's perfect

Why won't I like it if I'm a Conservative?

Well, I read the comic in my last year of high school, and it was awesome. As good as the Sandman stuff, possibly better.

Moore not only hates the adaptation, he hates all his books but his current work (League and a collection of porno fairytales).

It'll be interesting to see how much was kept of the original (especially the concentration camp scenes, Fate X Leader and the "Vicious Cabaret" sequence). Certainly going to see it for myself, probably when my mate gets back from Sydney.

Let's just say that the main villain (played by John Hurt) is Conservative Prime Minister, turned Chancellor, who turns Britain into a totalitarian state.

And V is the "terrorist" who rebels against all of this.

I liked the movie, and V is probably the coolest character ever. But I have one problem with it... how the shanerulesshanerulesshanerulesshanerules is he so industrious? I don't want to spoil anything, but let's just say he does a lot more by himself than should be possible. I guess if you guys don't know what I'm talking about I'll have another post with some spoilers. Aside from that, good movie, though.

shanerulesshanerulesshanerulesshanerules???

Anyway, to answer your question, it's a comic book adaptation and asking this question is the same as asking why Superman can fly or why Spider-Man can shoot webs.

If you were entertained, that's all that counts.

The comics are supposed to be deeper, more heavily focused on the characters, and grittier in the way that Alan Moore makes things (like Watchmen). The movie is supposed to show the government as being more evil while simultaneously showing similarities between current US policies. Characters in the movie are of course more Hollywood-y.

I'll end up seeing it. And reading it afterwards. Then I'll decide which is cooler.

I was entertained, and that's all that counts for me. But it would've been more entertaining if there had been more fights and less baldy Portman in a cell, but that's just mthe opinion of someone who'd never heard of the comic before this movie.

Also kudos to Hugo Weaving for playing the main role knowing full well that no-one will see his face in the entire movie. He has a great voice.

I thought it was pretty awesome. Love the mask.

And I'm glad they didn't show his face. It would have aken away from the concept of him being an idea, not a man.

Watched this movie and liked it, in spite of being somewhat conservative (I don't support Bush, which may be why I was able to like it).

I think it's cool how John Hurt (the guy who played the evil chancellor) has also played Winston Smith, the downtrodden protagonist in 1984.

I thought the movie was awesome, and very effective. I'm glad it was rather word-heavy. I'm getting sick of fight after fight in movies.

I saw 'V for Vendetta' last Friday night, too. Maybe I'm just thick (okay, no 'maybe' about it), but I don't see how the film comes off as necessarily anti-Republican. Anti-authoritarianism is how I saw it. (And if you're suggesting 'authoritarianism' is a major plank of the Republican platform (right between 'lower taxes' and 'smaller government', perhaps), I can only say I disagree.)

Thought it was swell, by the way. Never read the comic; I realised yesterday, while looking through the new titles at my local comic shop, that I'm pretty much done with comics. (I'm not ashamed to say this realisation hurt a little.)

Hahahaha, that movie kicked ass. Seriously. Best use of "bullet-time" ever. I wouldn't have even thought of it as bullet time if you guys hadn't said something.

Everybody should see it.
