Cars

As I said in the X-Men 3 topic, I work at a movie theater, so occasionally I get to see a screening of a flick. Well, I saw "Cars" last night.

When I first sw the trailer for this movie I wasn't impressed. But, it was a Pixar movie, and they have done no wrong yet, so it had to be good. And it was pretty good, but it definitely had its flaws.

Cons
-The movie tops out ar about 2 hours, but it seems much longer.
-The characters are mostly forgettable, which is unfortunate. Nothing really seemed to jump out and be memorable.
-The intro ( a race) should have been cut. A lot. This is the first Pixar movie that I've been bored of in the opening scenes.
-Many many car puns

Pros
-The character actors (like Tony Shaloub as Luigi) are quite funny at points.
-The animation, as usual, was beautiful.
-Lots of throwbacks to other Pixar movies including "Lightyear tires" (Goodyear + Buzz Lightyear) and Dinoco oil (The same name as the gas station in Toy Story). John Ratzenberger also pokes fun at himself for appearing in all the Pixar films.
-Larry the Cable Guy was tolerable. I absolutely hate any Blue Collar crap, but he did a surprisingly decent job as Mater. The only "ugh" moment was when he yelled "Git 'r done!" near the end.
-Many many car puns

Overall, I'd say that this movie is not a "Toy Story" or "Nemo" but more along the lines of a "Bug's Life", because it's not bad, but it outclassed by Pixar's better films.

In comparison to the other Pixar movies, I'd say...

1. Toy Story 2
2. The Incredibles
3. Toy Story
4. Finding Nemo
5. Monsters Inc.
6. A Bug's Life
7. Cars

Not to say that the film was bad, but it's just not as good as the others.

I personally am not rushing to the theatres to see it (in fact, I want to see Over the Hedge -- which I'm also not rushing to see -- more than this).

Anyhoo....

More like Michael J. Fox's "Doc Hollywood."

Eh, it was okay. Overly long and not quite as funny as I expected. Larry the Cable Guy and Tony Shaloub were the only characters I actually found funny. Not nearly as good as the other Pixar movies. The animation, however, was superb.
