Basically, it how they took stock footage of Marlon Brando from the original Superman film and create a computer model of Brando for use in the new flick. It's quite neat. |

Although the subsequent films deteriorated in both quality and overall plot, I was always the first person in my family to watch the Superman movies. He was the first character to introduce me to the world of fantasy and also opened up the comic book world to me. For these reasons plus many more I am going June 28th to Universal IMAX Theater and seeing this one in all its glory. I was both happy and relieved when I heard that Bryan Singer would be directing the movies, as I was pleased with the adaptations of the first two x-men flicks which could have been a whole lot worse. Also I was happy with his decision to use an unknown actor to play Superman and Kevin spacey to play Lex Luthor. This is the movie I have been waiting for since I was 5 yeras old and this will be the first Superhero movie that my son will accompany me on seeing as he was too young of a baby to go with his mother and I to any of the other more recent super hero flicks. __________________ Now every post can have headbangy goodness Last edited by Joker; 06-23-2006 at 05:54 PM. |

The original IMAX theatre, The Ontario Place Cinesphere, is right here in Toronto. When I was young, only 40-minute documentaries were shown in the format and at the Cinesphere they were usually shown as an 80-minute double feature. It was only within the last 5 years or so that feature-length films started being released in the format (though before that, it was common practice to show a 35MM film -- IMAX is 70MM -- on the IMAX screen, which results in a short of "letterboxed" IMAX - i.e. the picture only covers the centre of the screen). EDIT: I just took a look at the Cinesphere website, and the 40-minute documentaries that were playing when I was a kid are STILL playing. Last edited by Sean P Kelly; 06-30-2006 at 09:07 PM. |

I'm a little tired to go into details, so I'll just say that I liked it, but in terms of DC revival movies, I liked Batman Begins better. EDIT: I would like to make a little comment about the IMAX 3D. 4 scenes are in 3D, which makes up 20 minutes of screentime. Because the length of the film in 254 minutes, only 12% of the film is in 3D. I read a few days ago the Bryan Singer said, as an afterthought, that he wanted to make more of the movie 3D. That is too bad, because for most of the film, the 3D glasses were sitting on my lap. BTW, the 4 scenes are:

Good 3d effects, though it would have ruled if the entire movie were like that. I'm not a Superman fan by nature. Too perfect, only one good villain, and the only way you can even have him start to lose as fight is if you find some mineral from an asteroid. That said, I enjoyed Superman Returns. Sure, I really enjoyed it because it said Superman III and IV never happened (both of which were unbearable), but Singer shows why he's good at doing any sort of Superhero movie and why Brett Ratshiit ruined Xmen 3. Singer made the relationship between Lois Lane and Superman the focal point of the movie, and made you actually care. Spacey as Lex Luthor was excellent and put Gene Hackman to shame. The problem people will have is "TEHER SI NOT TEH ACHUN!1" in the movie. Really though, I didn't mind because Superman is just boring. Unless you have a kryptonite weapon, laser, or monster, Superman just owns everything. This actually made you forget about how lame he is and concentrated on building up a story that actually grabs you. I really liked how it handled the world moving on with Superman leaving for 5 years. Didn't understand why nobody seemed to link Clark Kent's reappearance coinciding with Superman's though (same with disappearance). Regardless, the stress and tension caused by the sudden disappearance and reappearance was perfectly shown on screen between superman and lois, and really made the movie IMO. |

I thought it was really good. The only problems I had with it was everybody's inability to draw the connection between Superman and Kent Clark, and the scenes that I thought were pointless that just increased my time spent in the theater (EX. the hospital scenes, some of the rescue scenes, etc.) |
