| My name is Stereotype with an A | World Trade Center I've known this movie was coming since Sept. 11, 2001. I knew because of Titanic and Pearl Harbor. God knows those movies were awful enough, especially the latter. Don't go see this one. Please. |

I'm not sure whether it's really comparable to the two films you mention, though. Is there a prominent lovestory in it. Also, I think Titanic was not a bad movie. Somewhat overrated, and made far more money than I can ever explain, but it's still a reasonably good movie. Good buildup to a climax, and the acting wasn't that bad either (I'm kind of a Kate Winslet fan). Pearl Harbor, on the other hand.... Let's just say the song in Team America was spot on. Since I live in the area and had a friend die in the attacks, I think this movie is insulting to the victims and their families. This is not something Hollywood should be capitalizing on. -CSM |

Malik, does it count as boycotting if I wasn't gonna see the movie anyway? And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" |

I'm also editing the title to remove the call for boycott, since everyone is free to see this film if they want to. EDIT: Plus, do you even know the plot of the film? It's just the story of two police officers who survived after being trapped in the rubble. The film doesn't even show the planes hitting. I wouldn't call a story of hope exploitive. EDIT 2: It's been a while since I did this, but I thought I should do so to reinforce my comments: Rotten Tomatoes Rating: - 71% Fresh (as of this posting)EDIT 3: Boy am I editting this post a lot. Anyhoo, here is a quote from Richard Roeper's review, which I think fits in with this topic pretty well: Quote:

I thought it was really good. For those saying that this movie is exploiting the attacks, the attack is over and done with in the first half hour. In that time, even though there are some disturbing visuals, there are only two deaths shown. The next hour and a half deals with the two port authority officers trapped in the rubble (played by Nicolas Cage and Michael Pena) trying to survive, interspersed with scenes with their families trying to cope. Personally, I felt the film was very respectful to the victims of 9/11. Other than a shadow of a plane, there is no visuals of the attack. While the film does recreate the burning buildings, any footage of them collapsing is done with achived news broadcasts (and even then, it's only brief images). In addition, at the end of the film, there is a list of all the port authority officiers that died in the attacks. So yeah, it's not a bad film and it's probably actually the best film Oliver Stone has done for a while (though, admittedly, this is only the second of his films I've seen) |

Of course, I am not as much personally affected by the attacks, because I'm not from the US, but I must admit that I felt quite shocked when I saw the images again. They way this movie was done was like experiencing that day again, but from the point of view of the air traffic leaders and of course passengers and personell aboard the one flight that did'tget to its destination. |

I dont think its time anytime because it was a huge tragidie where alot of ppl died y in the world are they making a F'n movie about this? F'n ppl who made this should not be working in that buisness because they just did the movie for the money not for the ppl. so i might not even go see this movie at all |

| Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Gender: Posts: 88 Thanks: 4 Thanked 1 Time in 1 Post | i saw the movie yesterday and it was pretty good. what sean kelly said was pretty dead on. i did intend on seeing it, but not for the reasons of conforming to corporate america, but because that day and event (as tragic as it was) brought this country together....made every1 closer. that event made us all realize how precious our lives truely are, and how quickly and unexpectedly we can be taken from this earth. the story told wasnt of tragedy, not of terrorism, but of 2 men overcoming the odds of having 3 buildings collapse on top of them unexpectedly and holding on by a thread to make it out alive, and of their families struggling w/ the fact that their sons/husbands/fathers might not come home that night.
