Hmmm...The Biggest SNL Cast shake-up in quite a while

According to the NY Post Article (which was linked from AICN), 6 cast members will be gone when the next season starts.

Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch have already left and another four are being set to leave.

Apparently the only ones who are set to stay are Seth Myers (who will probably also become the new head writer), Amy Poehler (the break-out star from 2002 and current Weekend Update [co-]anchor), Daryl Hammond (the longest running cast member) and Andy Samberg (the break-out star from last year).

So, here are my quick thoughts on the cast members who may be leaving:
Fred Armisen - Currently one of the funniest cast members
Will Forte - Good at playing crazy people that yell a lot
Bill Hader - The Vincent Price impersonation was great
Finesse Mitchell - Hardly notice is there
Chris Parnell - Leftover from Will Ferrell era
Maya Rudolph - Always plays similar characters
Horatio Sanz - Funny, but not around much anymore
Jason Suediis - Never really noticed him
Kenan Thompson - Reminds me of (a more chubbier) Tracy Morgan
Kristin Wiig - Hardly noticed her

I know SNL is not as good as it was in the old days (personally, I have only started watching it in the last 6 years), but 6 departed cast members (with no replacements being hired) is a big shake up indeed. AICN predicts that it will be Parnell, Mitchell, Rudolph, and Sanz that will be leaving.

What do you think?

Finesse Mitchell is quite possibly the funniest member of SNL, but most of you wouldn't know that, because they barely put him on. Seriously a huge mistake.

Mr.Bill was always my favorite cast member.

But really, Finesse Mitchell does need to be on their more.

Kenan should stay.
The reason you don't recognize Sudekis is that he's the only normal-looking guy on there, but he is funny.
They should also keep Forte, Armisen, & Hader.

Sanz can go without any objection from me, and Wiig was never very good.

If Finesse can write himself some better characters, fine, but aside from Starkeisha (which has completely played out by now), I haven't seen much worth watching out of the times he's been on.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^ Yes. In fact, I was too young to (stay up and) watch the show during the years it was popular. I didn't really become a semi-regular (I watch episodes based on who's hosting) viewer until 2000

I didn't think he was writer...

He's easily a better stand up comedian than he is character actor, though.

Officially he isn't, but the cast does almost as much writing as the writers on that show. Quickest way to get on camera is to write your own sketches (or have a celebrity impersonation).

He did lots of impersonations. Not as good as Aries Spears from Mad TV's impersonations, though...

SNL is pretty lame without Will Ferril, or any of the greats before him.

SNL needs a new standout, like Eddie Murphy or Will Ferrell.

Andy Samberg might've been the breakout star of last year, but he's doesn't have anything on the greats. I know dudes around town that look/act just like him.

If you haven't been keeping score, it was Horatio Sanz, Finesse Mitchekll and Chris Parnell who joined Rachel Dratch and Tina Fey on the former cast members list.

Still, I watched the season premiere last night and found it one of the funniest episodes I've seen.

Am I the only person that knows about the old Land of Gorch sketches? (Only the most hardcore SNL fans and Henson fans would know about them)

^Well, you said Henson, so that implies Muppets, so that implies first season, because the Muppets did not last long on the show.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

You know they should really start releasing season box sets for SNL instead of those umpteen "Best of..." discs

30+ seasons of an hour-and-a-half long show? Come on, you WISH you had time for that.

^Or you could get the full first 5 seasons, and then Best of Eddie Murphy covers the entire early 80s, so that's 10 years down in just 6 sets.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I haven't seen the new season but I've heard it's not funny at all. According to my mom, Seth Meyers is an even worse head writer than Tina Fey.
