| Song 2 : Whoo Hoo | Quote:
... (BitComet)... Of course, there's always the legal way of ordering through a specialty online store like HKFlix or as I said earlier eBay, but often times a rare, out of print movie can cost mucho dinero. For example, a DVD of Female Convict Scorpion: Jailhouse 41 sells for over $90. Chain stores such as Best Buy or big websites like Amazon sometimes carry rare films, but often poor-quality versions (dubbed language tracks, anywhere from 5-10 minutes cut from the film, new musical score, poor sound and/or picture quality). The main problem with importing foreign versions is dealing with region coding (it's a bitch). Movies: We watched a few short films from the early 1900's (Cinema of Attractions era), but I don't remember any of their names. Next up for me: Tonight: The Thirty-Sixth Chamber of Shaolin (a.k.a. Master Killer) Tomorrow: Possibly Oldboy depending on how late I get back from social activities and crap. Wednesday: Run, Lola, Run Being in a film class kicks ass. ![]() | |

| Song 2 : Whoo Hoo | Movie: Lola Rennt (Run Lola Run) Definitely a very interesting concept. I like how absolutely every little detail in the movie is relevant to the overall theme of the movie. Sometimes I wish I could live the past 20 minutes of my life over again and do something just a little differently. Thoroughly enjoyed it. TV: Daria I confess, I love this show, for all its brilliant cynical humor. Sometimes I feel I can relate to Daria. In fact, very often. |

| Song 2 : Whoo Hoo | Movie: Shaolin & Wu-Tang This movie is strictly for the serious martial arts cinema fans. The plot should appear very weak to those who know little about the historical context of the film. Story-wise, much of it seems a rehash of The Thirty-Sixth Chamber of Shaolin, with Gordon Liu's training sequence seeming to be a much shorter, quicker version than what had appeared in that film. However, the martial arts in this movie is simply superb, arguably some of the best ever put on camera. This movie earns a 2.5/5 for the casual movie fan, but a perfect score for the martial arts fan. TV Show: Daria Yes, I've become addicted within the past few days. |

| Song 2 : Whoo Hoo | Donnie Darko Okay, so I actually payed attention when I watched it this time instead of drifting in and out while playing monopoly (I figured I had to with my "Bomby Darko" avatar). By all means, this is a good movie, but it's not as weird and original as its cultists hype it up to be. Overrated, but still entertaining and interesting. It also made me glad that I'm not schizophrenic. Edward Scissorhands Along with Fight Club, this is just one of those films that I respect more than I enjoy. The contrast of the bright colors of the town to Edward's darkness is simply indelible, and was the main thing I remembered from the first time I watched this years ago going into this movie today. I also must say that I have the upmost respect for Johnny Depp as an actor. I guess the main thing that bothers me about this is the whole idea of "scissorhands" itself: you know that the guy who came up with it was either high while playing with scissors or let his mind wander while playing rock, paper, scissors. TV Show: ... Should I even have to say this anymore? More Daria. I have all five seasons now. Take that, MTV: that's what you get for being slow with your DVD releases (but if you do release them I promise I'll buy them because some of the episodes are the edited versions from Noggin's re-running of the series). |

| Song 2 : Whoo Hoo | The Departed Even without having seen the original three movies (Hong Kong's Infernal Affairs trilogy), I'm guessing it was probably very true to the originals. I know the feel of a Hong Kong crime movie, and this was chock full of it. I still say Tony Leung Chiu-Wai is a better actor than Leonardo DiCapprio, but Leo put up an Oscar-worthy performance (ironically, it was his other movie Blood Diamonds that got the best actor nod he deserved for this film, if I remember right). |

Despite its apparent age and poor dubbing it was an overall enjoyable foriegn movie. For Valentines day, I plan to be watching a French film "A Very Long Engagement" with my lovely girlfriend (It is one of her favorites). TV: I can't stop watching Naruto, Blame Acradius Whoe in return Blames me. I have seen 134 episodes and I think the majority of them are flashbacks. |

| Song 2 : Whoo Hoo | ^ Holy crap, I'm actually downloading "Fist of the Red Dragon" right now. The real title of the film is actually "Heroes Among Heroes." I've seen it before, not one of my favorite martial arts films, but Donnie Yen's martial arts performance made it enough to make me want to see it again. If I remember correctly, there was some excellent cinematography. It's actually only 14 years old. American studios always somehow manage to acquire the crap transfers. |
