Eldest was an even bigger abortion - the more different and action-packed the sequel is, the better it will be for audiences. The movie, that is, not the book. Not much hope there.

I tried. It read like internet fanfic or some AD&D setup. The movie was an improvement IMO.

Lurch, the only part of the ending that was cut out was Saruman taking over the Shire. Nothing too major, as he dies anyway.
