I generally detest 'ye-olde mediaeval' fantasy films, especially ones so clearly cliched as this, and especially ones based off cliched-in-themselves books written by 15-year-olds. :P |

Mostly because I'm a slow reader and don't read many books, when I see film adaptations I don't have to worry about comparing the book to the film. And I think that's a good thing. I don't really care about how faithful the film is to the book, because I never have (and probably never will) read the book. My only thoughts on Eragon is that I found it an entertaining film. I'm not saying it's a masterpiece, but it was good enough that I enjoyed myself watching it. | |

Some examples: In the book Eragon spends a month watching Spahira grow and picks a name for her. In the movie, after like two days, she flys in the clouds, catches on fire, crashes down and is instantly fully grown. WTF? The book said Urgals are terrifying creatures with black horns. In the movie they're just mean looking men with marks on their face. They didn't even say that Brom's dragon's name was Saphira or that the first dragon rider's name was Eragon. In the book Eragon learns magic from elves. In the movie he learns it by "instinct". And a lot of other things that would take to long to say. Well, at least whoever did the voice of Saphira did a good job, but that's the only good thing. I think the book is much better. |

There were some glaring issues with how they developed characters and handled the progression of time. It does have John Malkovich, who really needed to be in the movie more because he kicks ass. There are movies where you can say "Oh it didn't do the book justice" and you can nitpick on what they left out. The two primary examples are the Lord of the Rings and Jurassic Park (the first one, any other movie sucks). But ya know, when you're dealing what is essentially glorified fanfics, it isn't really an issue because nobody outside of 12 angry idiots on the Interweb gives a damn. |

It's just that this got half the book wrong and end up leading to the next movie having to cut out half the stuff that's supposed to happen in the next book. |
