I always thought there should be more than one villain in the Spider-Man movies, but when it was announced that there would be three in the third one, I thought it might be overkill. I was wrong. There are many plots and subplots, but they work beautifully. There is also a good balance between the action sequences and the love story between Peter and Mary Jane. It's my favourite of the series. Now let's hope that the other part 3s that come out this summer will be just as good. |

Don't read my spoilers unless you want the movie totally ruined. Too many problems to like. Still better than something like, say, X-3 (which was a turd). Venom felt really tacked on at the end, and didn't get enough screen time to flesh out the character. They didn't really do a great job fleshing out Brock (refer to Gwen Stacy angle). Gwen Stacy was a wasted character. I think they only threw out the name to give the nerds a nod, she could have been a nameless random girl in a dress. Church as Sandman was great. Dude made the character deeper than I thought possible. Too bad they flushed him down the sewer and he wasn't around for most of the movie. Totally wasted character. Killing Venom was moronic. It's bad enough you just tacked him on at the last second, but killing him (and Brock) off? Stupid. Not enough Spider on Goblin action. Interactions between Peter and Harry were great though. If anything could trash the Goblin's costume more than the first movie, it was putting Franco in a Paintball mask on the Back to the Future II hoverboard. The last fight was a combination of cornball and great action. Harry sacrificing himself was all too apparent once the spikes came out on the glider and Peter was tied up prone. Sad to see him go, but Franco did a hell of a job over the last three movies playing him. Cheap crappy Deus Ex Machima Alfred ripoff butler was pretty lame though. Seemed like they wrote themselves into a corner and couldn't figure out how to get Harry to forgive Peter. "Oh I know, let's have some butler come in and say "Oh yeah, i cleaned his wounds, it was from his glider. Oh I also know about hte Goblin and I'm cool with your dad murdering people." The whole black suit angle was handled wrong. Ok, he puts on the black suit and he turns into a greasy emo brat that should be in a coffee house talking about his off-centered lip ring and ordering a double latte. Regardless, the decision to break into ten minutes of Peter Parker strutting around like he's John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever is mindblowingly dumb. The dance scene in the Piano Bar invoked the Mask, and it failed. Stupid. Dumb. Took away from the rest of the movie. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie. I may even see it again. But really, it's probably the worst out of the series and I hope they close the series off. No lose ends after this one since they wipe out Venom, Harry, and Mary Jane/Peter are all happy again. Any further sequals would be bordering on George Clooney/Val Kilmer as Batman territory. Ya know, total cornball theatre. They've managed to kill off the top three (or four) Spidey villains (Goblin, Doc Ock, Venom, Goblin II) and there's not much left. What? Elecktro? Mysterio? Rhino? All lame. And Carnage without Venom is something that's just nail-hammered-up-the-nose retarded. Just end it before they have to bring in a new cast, a hack director like Michael Bay, and make the series nosedive into the dirt. Great trilogy, though the overall last installment didn't live up to the predicessors. |

Venom, when done correctly, can and is one of the best villains in the series. What, you're going to say he's below Elecktro, Rhino, Mysterio, or the other half-dozen other notibles that are ultimately retarded, low level retard henchmen that happened to get powers? Come on. You said yourself he's essentially the Id for Parker. I think my biggest problem is they never fleshed out the whole symbiote relationship outside of slicking Parker's hair forward and making him make mean faces and yell at the landlord. Not enough of him crimefighting in the suit, and really they just tossed Eddie Brock in a few times. I understand you're not a fan of Venom. Hell, dude gets kinda lame, and he's really the prototypical mold of that 1990s era anti-hero. Thing is, Venom provides the chance for an entire movie of really good action fight scenes. This didn't deliver that. And you can pry my mint condition ASM 300, Venom Leathal Protector 1-6, and the one he had with the punisher and the one with the juggernaut out of my cold dead hands. |

| Gunjinkeeper | It was alright. Everything Lurch said is ABSOLUTELY correct, by the way. Oh, and here's my opinion on the big climactic battle: (Don't read these unless you've seen the movie, because they contain inside jokes and also will spoil everything.) Venom: OMG NO PETAR DO KNOT KILL TEH SINBEEOAT *peter tosses goblin bomb* Venom: OMGWTF NO TAHT IZ A PERFEKLY GOOOD BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMB! *jumps into the explosion like a crazed idiot* Peter: omg i kiled anotehr one bi acsident sad omg no herry is ded and sew is teh edy Oh, and emo spiderman is utterly disgraceful and really, REALLY stupid. And Venom's voice was lame; in any interpretation otherwise I've heard, he had a sinister voice. In this version, they just kept Eddie's lame voice in there and made Venom incredibly weak, possibly physically inferior to just about EVERYONE else. Oh, and Harry not dying the minute his HEAD IS SMACKED BY AN EFFING BOMB AND BLOWN UP is utterly retarded. Every character died and came back at least once in that movie. In the real world, bomb+head=dead, but NOT IN SPIDEY-WORLD! By that token, Venom should have survived his explosion. Bah. Otherwise, it was a great movie. Sandman was the carrying force, in my opinion. Great performance, there... |

It shows that he was consumed by his own evil, like Parker was. If they brought Venom back, along with Carnage, it would kick serious ass as a sequel. And the Stan Lee cameo blew my brains out. | Gunjinkeeper | It's pretty obvious how the next ones will flow: Venom returns on some other guy Carnage is born of Cletus Cassidy, and is poorly protrayed Hobgoblin and Lizard are thrown in Oh, and according to a rumor I heard, Norman Osborn isn't really dead. I think its an idiotic lie, but what do I know? Oh, and if they so much as THINK about throwing Kraven in there, I'll kill myself. In conclusion, they have some more villains to exhaust before the game is over. I've heard predictions of several degrees, so trust me, Raimi'll milk it for all its worth. |

It's not idiotic, was really surprising back when it was revealed because it was like a serious punch in the face. It was good, because Norman Osborn is the only villain in Spider-Man's repertoire who can compare to something out of Batman's rogues gallery. Here's how I see the next three movies playing out in my ideal world. 4: Reveals Norman is alive and that the butler is insane and has been nursing him back to health the entire time, piece of symbiote Connors has serves as impetus for creation of the Lizard, movie rules. Somewhere in here Norman kills Mary Jane, to parallel the whole Gwen Stacy thing. 5: Norman hires Kraven the Hunter to take out Spidey. This movie is essentially Kraven's Last Hunt, and it totally rules just by default. It can be used to introuce a tasteful version of the Chameleon to set up for the next movie. 6: Norman forms the Sinister Six. Sandman turns on the rest of the Six, Norman and Spidey have a big final battle, the end! Awesome series. We'll never see another symbiote if they keep Raimi on board, he hates Venom and Carnage, and if they play it out right the thematic battle between the Osborns and Spider-Man could translate as well to the silver screen as it does to comics. Will probably never happen, but in a perfect world? That is how it would go down. Edit: Galefore, how in Hell can you not like Kraven the Hunter? Have you even heard of the Last Hunt? |

| Gunjinkeeper | ^^^I was referring to the lame-tastic cartoon version. Never really read any comics as a child; sorry to disappoint. I got all of my information from a combination of encyclopedias and my brother, who was a leukemia patient who had nothing else to do but read Marvel. Now he's a walking fountain of information, and you can't make him stop talking. Oh, and shouldn't Jakkal and his clones show up at some point? Kain was pretty badass. The reason I thought it was a lie? My nephew told me. I believe nothing he says. (this is the same nephew who sent you like three pms asking you to be his friend, if he was telling the truth about that.) |

Carnage is basically taking Venom and removing any of the psychological conflict and warfare between him and Spiderman. In other words: Carnage is a mediocre villain with no depth. It's Venom-lite, less filling except without the great taste. Everything I said about Carnage: switch Hobgoblin with Carnage and Green Goblin with Venom. Equally, if not more lame since Hobgoblin's essentially a two-bit villain. Raimi being a symbiote hater is a good thing. People whack off on Venom and Carnage like they're the pinnacle of Spiderman villains (they're not, that would be the Osborns). Kraven would stomp ass if you adapted the Last Hunt. Probably a bit too dark. Mysterio is lame. I think you'd have a hard time selling that without a total costume and character redesign. I'm with Wyborn: if Raimi stays on, Norman Osborn is still alive, which can only be good. FYI: Goblin-serum Healing factor and durability (refer to Harry not having scars). |
