Punch-Drunk Love: Revisited - VGF

I first saw Paul Thomas Anderson's film Punch-Drunk Love around the time it was released on DVD, probably 4 1/2 to 5 years ago. At the time, I was expecting a straight out comedy (basically, your typical Adam Sandler fare), but what I was in for was totally unexpected, and to be honest, I hated it. I thought it was the worst movie ever created. I thought it was extremely incoherent and lacking of any emotional quality whatsoever, like some studio just gave some LSD addict a camera and told him to shoot a film.

In the years that followed, I began to watch more different types of movies. I began to appreciate different types of films, especially in the past year. Recently, I had been asked what the worst movie I'd ever seen was: Punch-Drunk Love was the first thing that came to mind. However, after saying it, I thought about the movie, and withdrew my answer due to the fact that it had been a long time since I'd seen it and my tastes had matured since then.

After watching it again last night, I would like to officially apologize to Paul Thomas Anderson and all of humanity for any negative comments I've made regarding Punch-Drunk Love. The film is a masterpiece - everything from Sandler's surprisingly great performance to the vivid colors in the art sequences to Jon Brion's musical backdrop.

Now I'm beginning to wonder if I should revisit another critically acclaimed movie that I absolutely hated - The Royal Tenenbaums.

Still haven't seen it.
But my favorite movie is stinkin' Head; I think I can take a LOT of weird before that becomes my reason for disliking something.

The Royal Tenenbaums is a fantastic movie - one of my favorites. I hope you DO revisit it Bomby, because it's wonderful.
