The Not-So-Obligatory-But-Somewhat-Sensible Back To School Movies Topic

Before you ask, yes, this will be on the final exam, so please, take notes.

I. Introduction Paragraph
a. It's that time of year again to get ready to go back to school.
b. high school and college popular themes in movies
c. what are your favorite school movies?

II. Body - what are my favorite school movies?
a. The Virgin Suicides
i. Sofia Coppola's first movie, based on novel from early 90's.
ii. Really shows what adolescense is like for guys, especially the newfound allure of the opposite sex.
iii. Immaculately scored by Air, not to mention excellent casting work.
iv. Most memorable scene: Trip Fontaine is about to ask Lux Lisbon out, but no words are spoken.

b. Election
i. Comedy starring Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Broderick.
ii. Don't be fooled by the MTV logo on the packaging - the movie is actually quality.
iii. Excellent narrative structure. Manages to be both original and accessible.
iv. Most memorable scene: Two students interrupt Tracy Flick's speech, and the principal intervenes in a scene anyone who went to high school will immediately recognize from real life.

c. Boyz N The Hood
i. John Singleton's directorial debut that spearheaded the "hood movie" genre.
ii. Wow, Cuba Gooding Jr. in a good movie!
iii. One of the few "good message movies" that's actually a really good movie itself.
iv. Most memorable scene: Ricky's mom sees his SAT scores.

III. Outro
a. I want to see "Elephant" but I haven't.
b. Whether or not high school was the best four years of your life, watching these movies is sure to jog your memories.

Superbad. A thousand times over. Among other things, the dialogue (at least between the main kids) is as realistic and hilarious as any you're going to see in a movie.
