Across the Universe

Has anyone seen this yet? I've heard mixed reviews about it, but I love musicals, I love the Beatles, and it looks aesthetically amazing.

Anyone?

On another note - the soundtrack is incredible.

Saw it, liked it. Gonna say my favorite scene (not cover) was "I Want You." To be fair, I don't know all that many Beatles songs, although I like the ones I do know. I'm guessing it'd be a lot different if I did.

At one extreme, I've heard that it's better than sex, and at the other, that it's a ludicrous cheesefest. Either way, I won't be able to see it onscreen unless it stays up 'til Thanksgiving or opens in Kirksville.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^I've heard that too. I still am gonna see it, hopefully this weekend or the next, when I'm home with easy access to a theatre.

I will say that I liked it enough to see it twice, the second time with another group of friends. That's pretty rare.

I'm listening to Bono's cover of I Am the Walrus.

Damn, I need to see this movie.

Just saw it. It's a very uneven film: Some scenes are sheerly amazing; some barely work at all. The montage at the beginning is just stupid. Cast is great, though.

Bono plays a narcissistic charlatan masquerading as a master guru....so he didn't really have to act much.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

My brother couldn't get off work, and I have to go home for the week. Alas, I'll have to wait 'til next weekend.

It was alright. Capt. is right about that wave montage in the beginning being stupid. Also,
Spoiler Below
while I was initially pleased to see Eddie Izzard, his ad-libs in Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite got annoying.

I liked the music and the cinematography, as well as the characters themselves, but I thought the story was relatively weak.

My sister may be seeing it tonight with a friend.

But no me. Dammit all.

^^I didn't find that annoying at all. Loved him; the graphics were kinda weak there, though.

The best scene is easily "With a Little Help from My Friends."

And remember, "I'm-a Fred Savage, number one!"

Well I found it annoying even though I like him. Maybe it's just that I really like the original recording of that song and it was one of the ones that sounded the least like the original.

I wouldn't say easily. "I've Just Seen A Face," "Let it Be," and "Happiness is a Warm Gun" were all great.

Those were good ones, as well; there were a lot of great scenes. But "Little Help" was the best one.

On the flipside, "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" was really lame.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I liked it, but I don't see where it stands out as being the clear best one. "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" fell pretty flat, yeah.

It was kinda cute how all the characters were named after Beatles songs. Jude, Lucy, Max(well), Prudence, Dr. Robert, Sadie, and JoJo (ok, so JoJo might not be a song title, but he's in the lyrics of "Get Back")

I have to say I liked the part in "I Want To Hold Your Hand" where she's walking through the field with the players destroying each other all around her. But yeah, it was definitely one of the worst.

Come on, "I Want You" had by far the best scene. I also loved the one for "Strawberry Fields Forever."

For some reason, "With A Little Help From My Friends" isn't on the soundtrack. Neither is the first song ("Hold Me Tight" is it?) or a few of the others, but that one sticks out.
