No Country for Old Men

I don't really post movie thoughts here anymore, since I do that on my blog.

However, I have to say that I saw this film (which is currently out in limited release) last night and I can confidently say that it's the Coen Brother's best film since Fargo.

(FYI: The film goes wide on the 21st)

Awesome. I'm a big fan of the Coen Brother's and Fargo is indeed my favourite. Other favourites include The Big Lebowski, Miller's Crossing, Raising Arizona, Barton Fink, O Brother Where Art Thou and Blood Simple.

The Ladykillers wasn't that great, and I still haven't seen Intolerable Cruelty, but I heard that it isn't that good either.

I also have to say that this film really caps off a career-making year for Josh Brolin.

He went from being semi-unknown to being in films by Robert Rodriguez (Planet Terror), Ridley Scott (American Gangster), and the Coens all in one year.

I've been meaning to see a ton of films for a while now. This headlines an unusually strong autumn season out of Hollywood. I expect full-on dopeness.

I hope that when I'm an old man, people let me listen to whatever music I want to. Tell me I can't listen to a little Hank Williams or Johnny Cash, I'll lamp you one with my cane.

Saw it a week ago. Without question the most cerebral movie I've seen in a long time. Highly reccommend it, though it needs a second viewing to fully appreciate (IMO, still have to get around to another screening).

Just saw it. It was terrific. I don't mind telling you, probably the best movie I've seen all year (yes, even better than 'Shoot 'Em Up'--I know, I was surprised, too) (j/k...or am I?) (yes).

Saw it last night, and I fully agree that this film needs a second viewing. If you haven't seen it yet, make sure you pay close attention to what Tommy Lee Jones says about a dream he has. I didn't, and I with I did.

Javier Bardem deserves the Oscar (which he'll surely win) for this movie. You could easily have nightmares about this psychopath. He's scarier than anything we've seen in a while, and he makes other serial killers like Jigsaw (from Saw) look like the nicest guys you could ever meet. I was half-way expecting Woody Harrelson's character to channel Donald Pleasance (from the Halloween movies) and go on endlessly about how "pure evil" Anton Chigurh is. Even if you leave out all the allegory aspects about fate and "you can't stop what's comin" talk, this is still an intense film, especially with the scenes with Chigurh stalking Josh Brolin from hotel-to-hotel. Definitely worth seeing, but don't expect things to go in a linear, predictable fashion.
