Nothing too shocking here for me in terms of winners. I was slightly surprised with certain nominees (e.g. Javier Bardem as a supporting actor rather than a principal), but things shook out as expected for the most part. I didn't see Julie Christie winning for top actress and am in no real position to comment on that anyway, seeing as I haven't seen her film. Daniel Day-Lewis for TWBB was easy to me, and Atonement has been receiving critical acclaim left and right. Good calls there. Should be interesting to see if Atonement will use this momentum going into the Oscars, which will *hopefully* be more than a press conference with Billy Bush. On the other hand, tonight's proceedings were a nice change-of-pace from the traditional Hollywood awards schlock (or at least they were for me). Still, it'd be nice to see all the big players come out to support each other in a couple weeks. |

Personally, I think it was the hype that gave it its boost on the ladder of "awesome movies", but...maybe...it's just me? Did anyone else find the Golden Globes a little...dull this year? I dunno if it was the writer's strike, but... |

Anyhoo, I skipped the Press Conference disguised as an awards ceremony. However, finding out Atonement won "Best Picture - Drama" made me curious enough to see the film today. | ||

He is the most memorable character, drives a great deal of the action, and isn't dead twenty minutes from the end. Whenever he came on screen, he absolutely controlled and stole the scene. I suppose that doesn't automatically qualify him as an actor in a lead role, but I would certainly argue for Bardem in this regard. |

I don't expect to see spoilers to a movie that haven't been released yet in a topic that's not about that movie. I always avoid topics about the movie. |
