Actually, I feel like appealing to human insecurity is a fundamental foundation of horror films.

Coming up with an idea for a horror film in three steps:
Step one: Find human insecurity or fear. This is called the "other"
Step two: Grossly exaggerate the other.
Step three: Have positive human character come face to face with other.
