Pineapple Express

Seth Rogan's next movie. The people who made Superbad are making this. I guess it's about a guy(Seth Rogan) who witnesses a murder, and the murderer is looking for Seth so he can kill him.

Hopefully it's going to be as good as Knocked Up and Superbad.

The fact that you called the movie The Pineapple Express demonstrate how little you know about this film.

I feel like the title is a reference to Chungking Express. Which I highly doubt this film could ever dream of holding a candle to.

^ As much as you like you obscure Asian films, I highly doubt that's the case.

Maybe Polar Express is a reference. Or how about Murder on the Orient Express?

See what I mean?

^ First of all, pineapple plays a major role in Chungking Express.

Second of all, Chungking Express is not anything close to obscure in critical circles. I wouldn't be surprised if the creators of the film were fans, considering that a bigger name like, say, Quentin Tarantino, got it a wide release in the US around 1996 and the film has remained popular and critically acclaimed on a worldwide basis.

Third of all, referencing Chungking Express would be a positive in my book.

^ Also, it's directed by David Gordon Green. David Gordon Green would definitely know Chungking Express. (Ever seen any of his other films? I'd strongly recommend George Washington, and All the Real Girls has Wong Kar Wai influence written all over it) Keep in mind, I'm just hypothesizing.

You know what All the Real Girls also has? The entire Homestar Runner cast. Seriously, Matt's in the movie, and Mike & Missy were crew.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I just found out why it's called Pineapple Express. It has nothing to do with trains.

As did I. It's named after a Huey Lewis song.

Has nothing to do with trains or songs as far as I know.

I'd tell you all what it is but it's key to the storyline so I'm not going to spoil anything.

The Chungking Express is an awful, overrated movie.

Well, the first thing that comes to mind right now is The Dark Knight, but that's because it's topical. But then a summer blockbuster might not be the answer you're looking for.

The thing with Chungking Express is that you have to really be into the formal aspects of film to realize what makes it so great. I think Roger Ebert said it best:

Wong is more of an art director, playing with the medium itself, taking fractured elements of criss-crossing stories and running them through the blender of pop culture... You enjoy it because of what you know about film, not because of what it knows about life."
But anyways, back on topic, Pineapple Express actually looks like it might be a pretty damn entertaining film, and I am making plans to see it. Hopefully, Seth Rogen's writing has improved from that ungodly annoying Drillbit Taylor (what a waste of Owen Wilson). Of course, Pineapple has the advantage of having an excellent director in David Gordon Green behind it, whereas Drillbit had some hack named Steven Brill who made such masterpieces as Mr. Deeds and Without a Paddle.
