I've never really been that big of a fan of Michael Mann, despite that he and those damn Zuckers are the only really prominent filmmakers to emerge from my soon-to-be Alma Mater. I'll probably see it anyway just to see Madison on the big screen. Also, Marion Coutillard. But when it was being shot everyone was like "OMG Johnny Depp is in Madison aaaah!!!" He did make a stop at the sweet little hat shop on State Street though, which is pretty neat. |

Depp gangster film sounds awesome, though. Two of my favorite things. Is it set in the 20s or the 30s? I really dig the prohibition-era style, but the 30's onward approaches obscure dislike in my mind. |

The roaring 20's are really a better time and place all around. The excitement from the period is still tangible. The 30's are much subtler, and sadder, though, and I suppose that can work well for the film. |
