I've actually heard it's a prequel to the 1982 film (my favourite film), which makes the lazy titling annoy me even more than if it was a remake. I'm actually more worried that it's going to be a sucky prequel than a sucky remake, after all, the John Carpenter film is basically a remake of 'The Thing from another world'. Perhaps the worst thing about this film is that even if it does suck, I pretty much have to go see it in the cinema. |

I gave up about six levels in because of the lack of enemy variety and the companions thinging out two seconds after testing them. That's not even the worst thing about it though. The worst thing is that the game is canon. MacReady does survive, find a helicopter and save some random guy whilst flying around a giant meat-tree so as the other guy can machine-gun it to death. |

Looks like they tried to remake the first movie play for play, though. That and any Thing movie without Kurt Russel is a lost cause. |

Gender: Posts: 1,813 Thanks: 47 Thanked 56 Times in 48 Posts | I thought seeing as this film is out tomorrow, I may as well revive the topic. I intend to go see this film, maybe not on the first day, but in the meantime I will be avoiding reviews, and even this thread so as not to affect my own impressions about this film. I am almost certain this will suck. It uses CG and judging from the trailer uses it excessively. The trailer also suggests that the film is full of jump scares and the whole 'he's getting up in the background where we can see him out of focus, but the murder sacks can't see him and they're going to get murderalised' bit, both of which I hate, as they don't build up tension, and don't actually scare the audience. But that said, I'm going to give this film a chance. If it can manage to build even a portion of the suspense, or the tension of the John Carpenter film, and not make it obvious who is going to be a thing, then I'll consider it decent, but I highly doubt it'll manage that. Well, there's nothing more I can do, just wait. |

Gender: Posts: 1,813 Thanks: 47 Thanked 56 Times in 48 Posts | Unfortunately I just found out some bad news off of a friend, some news that has eluded me for months and that I could find on neither the official site for the thing, nor on wikipedia, and which I could probably have found out if I actually checked IMDB, but then I don't go on there much. It has a different release date over here. I have to wait two months for this film. That means I have to avoid stuff to do with this movie for two months because Universal decided to release it in the UK two months later. WHY? It's not like they have to translate this stupid film, they just have to bring it over. What are they doing with the film that means it has to take two months to reach another English speaking country? DAMN YOU UNIVERSAL! DAMN YOU TO HELL FOR THIS MINOR IRRITATION! |
