In no specific order:

"Spaceship" by Kanye West
Whenever I had to go to work and really didn't want to, this was my theme song. If I ever make my movie, this song will be used prominently in the score.

"Beautiful Struggle" by Talib Kweli
When Kweli said that Hi-Tek is the best producer in hip hop (see the issue of Scratch with the Neptunes on the cover) he was right on point, not to mention that Kweli himself is arguably New York's best rapper at the moment. Usually the title song of an album isn't very good, but here's an exception to that rule.

"Neva Eva" by Trillville
"Roll Call" by Lil' Jon f/ Ice Cube
This truly was the year of Lil' Jon, and although these weren't his biggest hits, they were the best songs featuring his production. Talk about music that makes you wanna beat the **** outta someone...

"Slow Jamz" by Twista
All I can say is that this will be a song that brings the nostalgia years from now.

"Drop It Like Its Hot" by Snoop Dogg
There is a common Japanese saying, "Less is more." Minimalism was the key to this hit, not to mention this was Snoop's best lyrical work since his early days.

"I Used to Love U" by John Legend
This one can go in history with Ice Cube's "I Ain't Tha 1" and Big L's "No Endz, No Skinz" as one of the greatest anti-golddigger songs of all time.

"Holla" by Ghostface
I love it when rappers sample old soul songs... this reincarnation of "La La (Means I Love You)" was the best song off of Ghostface's mediocre Pretty Toney album.

"Hold You Down" by Alchemist
Alchemist is the best white guy to do hip hop, ever, forget Eminem. His beats have a refreshing, deep, soulful, but most of all unique feel to them.

And, the best song of the year is...

"I Can't Wait" Sleepy Brown f/ OutKast
Has there ever been a bad song with OutKast on it? Maybe "Hey Ya," after the 4000th time you've heard it. Whatever happened to that Sleepy Brown album that was supposed to come out? I was looking forward to that.

1. Nas - Just a Moment

Just such a smooth song, and it talks about some real stuff. Song for the fallen ones can never go wrong.

2. Kanye West - Jesus Walks

Also talked about some very real stuff, he wasnt the first to do it, but he did it right.

3. Jadakiss - Why

One of the best thinking tracks of 2004, it asks you to think about all the things in the world and why are they happening. A very good song.

4. Nas - Live Now

Song telling people to live their life to the fullest now, it has a very touching ending.

5. Mario - Let me Love You

My favorite song right now. So many girls want a bad guy, and this is a good song for that.

6. Nas - A Message to the Feds

A message to those people in the government and stuff, sayin that they screwed us over a few times.

7. Kanye West - All Falls Down

Just a great song with a great message.

8. Nas - Nazereth Savage

Such a crazy song, and I love the beat.

9. Kanye West - Spaceship

Message is crazy, a song about work sucking is never bad.

10. Jadakiss f/ Common, Nas, and Styles P - Why Remix

They all killed their verses. From Common saying "Why they hype Brittney up, they know she can't sing." From Nas "Why they gotta worry about my sons braids rather than their grades?"

Granted I always forget songs, and this list will probably be changed once I watch Notarized later on today.

I would think of a list of pure RAWK, but then, I rarely listen to current music anymore. =/

Oh, wait...

Take the following CDs:
Flogging Molly-Within a Mile of Home
Green Day-American Idiot
Franz Ferdinand-Self Titled
A Perfect Circle-eMOTIVE

Insert the musical contents into a blender.

Out of that big mess of musical bliss, choose ten songs. Any one of them. Doesn't matter.

There you go. There's my list.

I'm unqualified to judge; looking back over the course of the entire year, the only brand new album I got was that new one from Rammstein (it rocks, by the way).

Nag, Nag, Nag, Nag, all rap is crap, Nyeh, Nyeh, Nyeh, I wouldn't even try and here any good rap, nyeh, nyeh, nyeh, I let the mainstream decide a whole genre for me, moan, moan, moan, *****, ***** *****.

Seriously, no one said it was ALL rap awards, those were solely their opinoins, it just so happened that the first people to respond liked rap. I just wish people would read the rules more carefully.

Anyway, like I said I'd do.

LEGEND:
(R)- Rap
(rb)- R&B
(s)- Soul
(o)- other

Top 25 of the Year, Cornell's edition.

25. Alicia Keys- If I Ain't Got You (s)- Great Love song, which was sang at the wedding by the way

24. Anthony Hamilton(S)- Comin' From Where I'm From

23. Big Kuntry feat. Mackboney, and Jae Mills- Kill Ya Self(R)- The Rebirth of my favorite saying.

22. Cee-Lo feat. Pharrel(rb)- Let's Stay Together-
I loved this song, it was one of those songs, you could see a picture painted in your head for, it's a very beautiful get back together song.

21. Ciara- 1,2, Step(rb)- Perfect dance song

20. Usher- Burn (rb)- Good break up song

19. Elephant Man f/ Lil' Jon, Twista, YBZ, Bonecrusher, and Kip-Rich- Jook Gal/Remix (Reggae)

18. Lil' Flip- Game Over(r)- I don't like Flip too much, but I think this was a real good song..or maybe it was the Pac-Man sample.

17. Young Gunz feat. RELL- No Better Luv (r)- I loved this song, and so did my lady, she did kinda play it out.

16. Goodie Mob feat. Sleepy Brown(r/s)- Play Your Flutes- This had a good message to it (T-Mo's verse) and taught a thing or 2 about growing up

15. John Legend- Used To Love You(s)- A Good song telling everyone that is dating for the wrong reasons, saying Love is very special and shouldn't be fronted for money and things of that nature

14. Kanye West feat. Saleena Johnson- All Falls Down (r)- Another song with a good message.

13. Trillville feat. Pastor Troy- Get Some Crunk In Your System (r)

12. Magic feat. Youngbloodz, and Roy Jones Jr.- Do It Big Remix(r)- Yes, I do smoke, and drink

11. R.Kelly- Happy People(S)

We are down to the top 10

10. Rasheeda feat. Akon- Make It Hot(r)

9. Ruben Studdard- sorry 2004 (rb)- Another good Get Back Together song

8. Ying Yang Twins- Salt Shaker (r)

7. Slum Village feat. KanYe West- Selfish (r)- the lyrics were just beautiful, except for that last guy, but Kanye did rip this track.

6. Too Short feat. Jazze and Phae, and that guy from JAgged Edge- Choosin (r)-- I play that at least ONCE everytime I go somewhere

TOP 5

5. T.I.- Let's Get Away(r)- It was like Dre said, perfect for when you wanna spend time with that one person.

4. Jadakiss feat. Anthony Hamilton- Why? (r)- I think this is the record that even if you're not a rap fan, or hate it, need to listen to, it is an incredible song that got publicity for all the wrong reasons, the greatest lyric is NOT "Why did Bush knock down the towers?"
and like Jada said in the remix, "Why did it take me to make why for y'all to listen"

3. Nappy Roots- Trouble Of This World (r)- Beautiful song, and I too will be done with the trouble of this world when I find out what God wishes for me to do with my life

TOP 2

2. Sleepy Brown feat. OutKast(S)- I Can't Wait,
How do you explain how good a song his? How do you show that soul music is still alive? God, how do you find a reason to make the video 70's style?
Sleepy has the oddest talent I've ever heard, he is like a modern soul mixed with that 60's 70's soul music, your Aretha's, Brown's, Gaye's, all that.

Honestly I think there is only one song better than this:

1. Prince- Call My Name(s)- a solid comeback for a...unique artist, Call My Name was played on my computer or in my car everyday for months straight, and I never got tired of it, it was so incredible, and beautiful, it was a side of Prince you rarely see.
