| Condescending Film Jerk | It just might be music to you, but it's a whole damn culture, a way of life for millions upon millions of people, including myself. Judging by your comments on the lyrical content, you obviously don't know anything about it, [ January 25, 2005, 02:37 AM: Message edited by: Neko ] |

MANY people put their feelings into rap songs just as artists of other genres do, and it takes just as much talent to rap good as to do anything else good. "California Love"- Tupac "Rock Box"- Run-DMC "Through The Wire"- Damned if I can remember who sang that...help me out here, folks. The main problems I have with mainstream are: A) Sampling classic songs that rock and completely bastardizing them. I understand rock is guilty of this too (see "Another Brick in the Wall" covered by Korn), but Nelly sampling AC/DC and that cover of "Sugar" (An absolute aural holocaust, I might add.) made my blood boil. B) It's almost never singing. C) It's almost never about something worth listening too. D) "Yeah"- Usher ft. Ludcris and Lil' Jon. 'Nuff said. I haven't really heard any underground stuff (That doesn't mean bombard me with mp3's of your favorite underground artists), so I won't make inferences about it *cough*Shadow*cough*. ~Dylan |

Dave Chapelle usually has some good rap near the end of his shows, so I watch for them sometimes. | |

I personally feel his post is a worthy opinion to start debate, but its not okay to trash on him for having an opinion. (not that im taking sides) Neko^^ |

So he's right. what people realy need to see is that there's always a ton of crap on the bottom of the pile, while the top is narrow. Music is just an extension of someone's mind, so for instance, if you go to an art show you're not guaranteed to enjoy it. You might not understand it, but that's not the point. It really just isn't meant to satisfy you. It's for someone else. ![]() |

The majority is not just about sex and swearing, trust me. A Lot of mainstream songs, though they are crap, and not swear-filled, and don't even mention sex, sexy women yes, but sex no. Let us display a rap verse: Quote:

| Condescending Film Jerk | If you think there's no content in hip hop, listen to Ice Cube (especially the first three albums), OutKast, Public Enemy, Talib Kweli, Goodie Mob, Nas, De La Soul, Common (Sense), and the so many more hip hop artists who have plenty to say. Ice Cube - A Bird in the Hand Fresh out of school cause I was a high school grad gots to get a job cuz I was a high school dad Wish I got paid by rappin' to the nation but thats not likely, so here's my application Pass it to the man at AT&T Cuz when I was in school I got the a. e. e. But there's no s. e. for this youngsta I didn't have no money so now I have to punch the Clock like a slave, and be half a man but whitey says there's no room for the African Always knew that I would boycott, jeez but welcome to McDonalds can I take your order please Gotta sell ya food that might give you cancer cuz my son doesn't take no for an answer Now I pay taxes that you never give me back what about diapers, bottles, and similac Do I have to sell me a whole lotta crack for decent shelter and clothes on my back? Or should I just wait for help from Bush or Jesse Jackson, and operation Push? If you ask me the whole thing needs a douche a masengel what the hell cracker sale in the neighborhood To the cornerhouse *****es, Miss parker, little joe or Todd Bridges Or anybody that he know so I copped me a bird, better known as a kilo Now everybody know I went from po' to a ***** that got dough So now you put the feds against me cause I couldn't follow the plan of the presidency I'm never givin' love again But blacks are too ****in broke to be republican Now I remember I used to be cool till I stopped fillin' out my W-2 Now senators are gettin' hired and your plan against the ghetto backfired So now you got a pep talk but sorry, this is our only room to walk Cause we don't wanna drug push But a bird in the hand is worth more than the bush [ January 25, 2005, 11:23 PM: Message edited by: A Bird in the Hand ] |

I beleive that its pretty lame for the most part, however i listen to some rap- for no reason.. well i suppose im attracted to the beat of the music, and i just plain like MC Chris.. other than that i think it blows, and there are many problems with ebonics, and the topics rappers choose to rap about. Sure there's 50 cent and people who just rap about being gangsta, though 50 was pretty good back when he was underground. Listen to: Talib Kweli: Get By Nas: Message to the Feds Outkast: Any song really There's just so many more. Another sick song is Nas - Rewind, he does a whole story backwards. |
