You need to start listening to real punk. SoaD is the only band there that has any integrity left.

My two favorite bands are The Clash and The Sex Pistols.

Put your hands over your head and step away from the radio.

DO IT BECAUSE I SAID IT.

Green Day is probably the only punk band you listed (To all who may disagree: Green Day definitely qualifies as punk.).

Simple Plan and Good Charlotte are NOT punk. They aren't even good.

Bowling For Soup falls into the same category as Simple Blah and Good Crap, but at least they're funny.

SOAD isn't punk either. Definitely metal. And they rock.

While Backstreet Boys was a joke (I hope.), it still needs to be said: you are not funny.

Simple Plan/Good Charlotte and all those other whiny "punk rock" bands are simply hgih school bands redefined by a corporation to make a lot of money. There's nothing wrong with that, it just results in ****ty music.

Green Day used to be good, but American Idiot is so hypocritical and produced.

Old Punk rocks.

^^ But by definition, it's punk; it's aggresive and politically charged. Just listen to "Anarchy In The UK" by The Sex Pistols or "My Brain Is Hanging Upside-Down" by the Ramones.

Punk died in the 80s. Rehashed scene punk isn't worth anyone's time, and pop punk is barely even music.

On a rare occasion, I might listen to the Unseen, Kill Your Idols, Funeral Oration, Scared of Chaka, the Pinkerton Thugs, or Propaghandi. The Rise is some good post-hardcore. Mostly, "punk" is just for outspoken teens with nothing new to say.

American Idiot (the album) is horribly corporatley produced. It's simply cashing in on the easy dislikement of George Bush. They sing about liberal politics and injustices, yet they're multi-millionaire making millions for a billion dollar industry.

I'm not the biggest punk fan out there, to be honest.

I don't really have much time for "political messages" in punk music, because usually it's just recycling the same old crap that the Sex Pistols already said 28 years ago. They say a lot about the government, but usually they have no idea what they're even talking about. Few of them actually know what anarchism is, and even less of them would be able to survive in an anarchist society.

EDIT: stupid typos

^^^Since, as we all know, rich people are walking hellspawn.

^I agree, that's kinda the problem with most such messages in music; either it's been said before or it's too wordy to make a good song.

As for Simple Plan, I can only stand that guy's voice for about 10 seconds before I feel like bashing my head against a rock.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Let's elope, Dylan.

I like how heavy metal is offered as the only alternative to punk by the author of this topic.

Cause, you know, those are the only two genres of music to ever exist.

I think I'm the only one who misses 90's alt. rock. Oh Matchbox Twenty, Third Eye Blind, New Radicals...Where hast thou gone?

I really don't see why everyone has such a beef with American Idiot. Just because something is licensed by a major corporation doesn't mean the content is going to be total crap. The only two attacks on Bush that I found on the album were "American Idiot" and "Holiday". Finally, how can the album be based on hypocricy if it's based on the life of Billie Joe?

If a major label were to market some of our favorite bands (The Beatles, AC/DC, Cream, etc.), would you think any less of them?

~Dylan

P.S.: AntiSoc...I'll be outside your window with a getaway car at 0100 hours. Got it, sweetcakes?

^New Radicals broke up after Gregg got sick of playing "You Get What You Give" constantly.
