Cover songs you'd love to hear

Ever hear a song and think that it would soud awesome being covered by another artist?

I'd like to hear D'Angelo do a cover version of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes' "If You Don't Know Me By Now." He would tear that song apart.

Except for songs that I'd like to one day cover, nothing springs to mind.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Me neither, but I'm sure something'll come up.

I want Cee-Lo to re-do his remake of "Let's Stay Together" after two years, I still can't stop listening to it.

I wish Bullet for My Valentine would cover Tom Petty's Free Fallin'

And when I saw Avenged Sevenfold, in concert, they covered GnR's Paradise City, and Pantera's 'Walk'. I wanna hear those from the studio.

I don't want people to cover other people's songs. Remakes are just, well, let's take this as an example. Someone recently covered Roxanne by The Police. I couldn't meet that many people who liked that song and heard of The Police. It's one thing to perform them at concerts. For example, Sister Hazel did a great job of performing Midnight Rider by The Alman Brothers at a concert I attended. It's another to cover them. -CSM

I'm not too sure what to think of covers. One the one hand I think they should take the song to another level, but on the other hand I think you shouldn't mess with a song that's already good. I don't think there are many songs that should be covered, but sometimes it can turn out beautifully. One of my favourite songs is Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood by Santa Esmeralda, which is a cover of a song (pf the same name) by the Animals. But the cover only ook the basic skeleton of the Animals song and greatly expanded on it with new arrangements and added instrumental sections.

I agree with CSM that live covers are always fine.

That's the type of song I think should never be covered. It can never get better so why bother?

Actually I like Scissor Sister's cover. In a bit of irony, the final song on the album (Return to Oz) sounds more like Pink Floyd than the actual cover (which is dancy)

Guns N' Roses did a pitiful job covering Paul Mcartney's "Live and Let Die". Do not mess with the original. But there are covers I do like, so it just depends on the song.

I should say they did a good job with Knockin' on Heaven's Door, to be fair. Though Bob Dylan's verison was infinitely better. -CSM
