How and when do you listen to music?

I listen to music nearly every minute I'm not doing something where I need to really pay attention to something else (e.g. watching tv/movies, sometimes when I'm studying).

Usually when I get up, the first thing I do is turn on my computer, turn on winamp and just play my entire playlist (1300+ songs) on random. I mostly listen to my playlist when I'm surfing the net, but also when I'm doing daily routine stuff (getting dressed, brushing teeth etc.). Sometimes when I want to hear particular music (usually Queen or Alan Parsons Project) I put on a CD.

I have an MP3 player which I use when I'm travelling somewhere or going somewhere on my bike, even if it's just a short trip to the shop. Unfortunately my player is being repaired at the moment (I hate Samsung). I also listen to it when I'm cooking or doing the dishes alone, because I can't hear the music from my room in the kitchen. Now that my MP3 player is broken I listen to the radio (the only place where I do this).

I also frequently watch music DVDs. Usually at least some songs every day. I love to see live performances of my favourite artists, and I have a few music video collections as well.

Of course I also listen to music that I do not choose myself when I'm working or going out. When going out I do select my favourite bars on the music they play there.

Finally, I almost always put on a CD before I go to sleep. Usually a studio album (which runs for 35-45 minutes) to which I fall asleep. It's also a nice indication for me how long it took to fall asleep. It always takes a while for me to fall asleep and there are plenty of times when I listen to an entire studio album, and sometimes even compilation album (which are usually over 70 minutes). I even put on a CD when I get home drunk, even though I usually only hear half a song in that case (while sometimes my roommates hear an entire CD ).

Well, I'm on the air 5 hours a week, and most of that time is spent playing music. Whenever I'm driving I have music going: radio for short runs; CDs for long-distance travel. Also whenever I'm settling down to do some homework I either run CDs or pull up Launch radio. Launch also comes to the fore when I'm just messing around on the computer for a while or writing or something. And there's the no-hassle concertos I get on a regular basis when people come to practice on the piano in my lounge.

Oddly enough, though, I prefer not to have music playing when I'm writing songs.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

As I have never written a song I don't know how that goes, but I would assume that it is logical not to listen to other music when writing your own. I think music can be distracting anyway when you're trying to concentrate.

I play music constantly when I'm doing homework. It's a great stress-reliever. It's also inspired me a couple of times when I need to write something. It has to be the perfect song though, otherwise it's a distraction.

I love to listen to music LOTS. I don't watch much TV so enjoy having something thumping through the house, car... wherever. I like it especially when I'm posting or doing coding.

I have a general purpose playlist, which is the majority of music I own (the in-circulation list).

Then, there's the mellow list, which I use late at night when I don't want to start rocking to some song I like.

Then, there's FF7, which is just the FF7 OST. Used mainly for studying, as an audio cue.

And then there's the Touhou list, which contains all the Touhou games background music, used when I want to rock to something.

When I listen to music is when I want to calm down or something. I usually listen to rapp and R&B.

Basically I use my iPod mini whenever I listen to music, and that can be whenever I study, when I go to bed, or just whenever I get the temptation to. I have separate playlists for certain times, like whenever I go running or whenever I'm trying to fall asleep. Really mellow songs are for going to sleep, while my running playlist has DDR and other video game songs on it.

I listen to music every shot I get.

I usually wake up in the morning due to my CD player's alarm. I keep that player playing and go take a shower, in the bathroom, I have a speaker that used to go to an old CD player, connected to my portable CD player, and I have music play while I'm in the shower.

I spend the next 5-10 minutes getting dressed (spend a lotta time fixing the touches, putting on the watch, ring, putting the wallet, keys, MP3 player, etc. in the pocket, and then oiling my hair if I just washed it) and listening to music.

I listen to my MP3 player on the way to school (Bus), and when I get my car, I'll have CDs playin the whole ride. During 2nd period, I listen to music more, since it's TV Production and 3 days out the week, we don't do anything and he lets us relax.

After school, when I'm doing homework, I let my MP3 Player play, it really helps you do homework, and tunes everything else out. But if you don't have that great of an attention span, you may write down the wrong thing. For example, I was doing an English assignment last year, and was listening to "Heaven Must've Sent You", and I believe the sentence I wrote in my paper was something like:
"Brutus can be seen as a heaven in your arms, the sweetness of your charms, makes me love you more each day."

When I usually walk Rox, the dog, I take the CD player, cause it gets louder. Down in the kitchen, there's an old CD player that I use when I clean the kitchen. I also listen to music up in my room when I'm just relaxing, and when playing video games where I don't need to hear anything, I definetly have it playing. When I'm alone or with friends, I listen to about everything, when I'm just around the house and my parents are home, I listen to a load of R&B, just because that's what they love, and it's what I grew up with.

And like Koga, I listen to music as I go to bed, the volume is slightly low, and the sleep timer is on (Usually a 4 hour timer).

When I used to write music, I would let instrumentals play to help me write.

I just like to have a soundtrack to life! So constantly, in innapropriate settings (eg church), travelling, while doing homework, while putting off doing homework, etc.
I have actually seen my sister listen to her MP3 player while watching tv, so one headphone in, one out. MULTITASK!!!

Hah, took me a while to check back here. Sorry. =] I play clarinet, but I really want to play practically anything I can get my hands on. I hope I'll get the chance to really play more in college, but I'm not sure if they include that type of thing in the Music Composition track... Still, I do have some keyboarding books laying around here, which would be a good start. ^^

I am constantly listening to music. I wake up and my CD player is still on 3-disc repeat from the night before. (Usually fall asleep to emo, classic, or an OST[Matrix, Spiderman, etc.) Then, if I work that day, I work at Hot Topic, so there is constantly good music there. On the way there I'm listening to the MP3s stored on my PSP, and during breaks I'm streaming my 2000+ MP3 collection from my computer. If I don't work that day I pretty much do stuff around the house and put MusicMatch on Shuffle or throw an MP3 disc in my 5.1 Dolby Digital DVD player. When I'm trying to write a song, I'll usually listen to a video game OST, like Zelda, Mario, or Final Fantasy VII(I've never even played any Final Fantasy games, but the music is amazing). Queen and JamisonParker also help me think really well when I'm reading up on something or studying.
I'd say about 22.5 hours of my day are filled with music. If you include the sleeping during 3-disc repeat part.

It doesn't matter. Whatever mood I'm in, there's always something for me. I usually listen to it on my computer. The music varies. I listen to blues, classic rock, and a little underground.

There are also times when I'll go to websites with video game OSTs and listen to that. But those have way too long load times, and I have to download them away from school. -CSM
