Song of the week: Sign up now! - VGF

I remember back at NetGen that the music forum used to have a song of the day topic. I wasn’t really into music back then, so I didn’t really visit that forum, but I think it was just a topic where every day somebody would post the lyrics of one of their favourite songs.

I want to bring it back to this forum, but maybe with a few changes. One idea I had is that someone would suggest a song of the day (or week) that person really likes, and post not only the lyrics, but also why he or she likes that particular song. We could also take it a step further and make sure that other people listen to the song that’s been suggested (I personally am not opposed to file-sharing or downloading of music), and then post their views on the song. I think if we went that way, a song of the week would be better.

So what do you think of these ideas? How would you like to see it? If we have decided how we’re going to do it I will make a list where you can sign on to give your suggestion.

I meant that this topic was about suggestions fow how we're going to do this (I see now that the topic title is a bit misleading). Once we have decided what format to use, we'll make a list of people who want to participate, and the next person on the list gets to pick the song of the day/week.

EDIT: I can’t Edit the topic title, because my internet explorer keeps messing up. Anyway, how do you think this should be done? Lyrics only? Or lyrics and a short introduction why this song is special to the poster? Or should we also include comments from others, and encourage them to listen to the song if they haven’t done so already? Should it be updated daily or weekly?

Like I said, it's a good idea. Both the lyrics AND an intro to why the song is cool sounds like a good idea. Also, it would be awesome to link to guitar tabs.

Oh, and it should be updated weekly. This is so people get a chance to listen to the song. -CSM

Yes, that's basically what I had in mind. Before I start this I will let people sign up who want to post their songs and then I'll make a schedule.

But I'm going to wait a little while longer. I'm quite busy at the moment, and next week I won't be online at all.

I say we just start a topic in general, stating the Song of the Day, have the lyrics and background of the song posted. Are we able to change the topic title still?

I suggest doing it weekly.

I suggest that the first five people to respond in a song of the week topic should post their favorite song lyrics, and on Wednesday, people vote for their favorite, so that on Friday of the week, we can send Koga the song that wins, he can put it in the forum header, and we can discuss it during the weekend.

On Sunday, the cycle starts again.

That's also a possibility, but I thought it would be better if we just took turns. After all, the idea is to let people hear songs they haven't heard before (but which you love), and they cannot vote on songs they haven't heard.

You just sign up, and once the list is complete, every week one person on the list gets to post a favourite song, post the lyrics and explain their choice. Other members who have also heard the song can then comment on it, and those who haven't can download it.
