Like Koga, I will list female artists/groups that are on my playlist:
  • Even though it doesn't really count, The Arcade Fire has a female vocalist that does lead vocals on two songs
  • Blondie
  • Bif Naked
  • Courtney Love/Hole
  • The Cranberries (probably my #1 female representation on my playlist)
  • Ellen Reid (of Crash Test Dummies, who released a solo CD in 2001)
  • Evanescence
  • Garbage (I would list them as #2)
  • Martha and the Muffins
  • Melissa Auf Der Maur (former bassist for Hole/Smashing Pumpkins)
  • Metric
  • Nena
  • No Doubt (not crazy about Gwen Stefani's solo stuff -- or the recent No Doubt stuff for that matter. But, the early stuff is great)
  • Stevie Nicks
  • Rough Trade
EDIT: Forgot some groups with female singers that are on an 80s complilation I have.

I think Cristina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil has a good voice. I'm also a fan of Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Aretha Franklin, Mary J Blige, Aaliyah, Alicia Keyes, and the girls of Xscape.

Wouldn't it be awesome if Aaliyah were artist of the week?

Yeah, that would be neat.

^ dude, just send me a PM and I'll feature her. It's been that way since I started doing AotW. Lately, no one had PMed me anymore, but I think at least 7 of the bands in the Hall of Fame were not chosen by me.

Edit: ok, it's 6.
