As you can see from the discography and members list this band went through many lineups, but it's the Mark II lineup that is the classic one. They wrote and recorded one of my alltime favourite songs: Child In Time, as well as the legendary Machine Head album with songs like Highway Star, Space Truckin', Lazy and of course Smoke on the Water. I actually only know a few of their songs that are not from their period, like Stormbringer and Burn both from the Mark III lineup, but I've been thinking about getting their Platinum Collection for a while. I do have a brilliant DVD of the only Mk II concert recorded in its entirety. It was recorded in Denmark, but the setlist is similar to the Made In Japan live album. There is some bonus material as well, including the only recorded live performance of the classic line-up performing Smoke on the Water. As you can see in the discography, they tried to reunite the Mark II line-up a couple of times, but in the end Blackmore and Gillan just couldn't get along. Ian Paice is the only member who has been a part of every line-up. |

They actually included it in Guitar Hero, which is a really addicting game, if I do say so myself. |

I know most of you (if not all) know Smoke on the Water, but how many of you have heard Child in Time? It's quite popular in the Netherlands and it usually finishes in the top 10 of any x000 of all time list, but I don't think it was a big hit internationally. I would reccomend that song to anyone. If you decide to download it, make sure you get the version that runs for about 10:30. |
