Interesting cover songs

This morning I saw a Disturbed video directed by Todd MacFarlane (the person who does Spawn, who also previously directed videos for Pearl Jam and Korn).

The song just happened to be......a cover of Genesis' "Land of Confusion"

It was actually quite good.

So, what other interesting covers have you heard (it doesn't have to be more instances of Hard Rock bands covering 80s songs)

I'll start with the covers of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together"

Cee-Lo feat. Pharrell Williams- Let's Stay Together
It wasn't a word-for-word cover, but it was still covering that same song, and I think it's one of the best covers I've heard. Cee-Lo did the main vocals, and Pharrell assisted in production and chorus vocals, overall, a great song.

Michelle Williams (From Destiny's Child) feat. Jazze Pha- Let's Stay Together
Michelle's cover was beautiful, the only thing that set me back on it, was that it was just a word-for-word cover, and she just added her attitude and vocal to it. I don't turn her down for that, but I set Cee-Lo's song higher.

Ashley- Heaven Must've Sent You
Covered: Bonnie Pointer- Heaven Must've Sent You
Ashley is a good friend of mine, she's been singing since she was about 10, she doesn't want to pursue a career until she has finished high school though. It was a word-for-word cover of Bonnie Pointer's song, the amazing thing about it, is she sounds EXACTLY like Bonnie.

That's all I can think of for now, I'll come back with more when I remember them.

One of my favourite covers is Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood by Santa Esmeralda (originally by the Animals). They just took the basic ideas of the original song and greatly expanded on it, with some awesome instrumental sections. The song is also used in Kill Bill Vol 1 and it's on the soundtrack.

That's the only one I can think of right now. I also like it when bands cover songs of the bands that inspired them during live concerts, sort of as a tribute.

Just thought of another one: Weir Al's Bohemian Polka.

I like when Korn did "Another Brick in the Wall". It's not my favorite Pink Floyd song but it sounded cool.

I also liked when Deep Purple did "Hey Joe"

Alien Ant Farm's cover of "Smooth Criminal" would definitely be my favorite. Second would be "Magical Mystery Tour" by Cheap Trick.

And for the record, Korn's version of "Another Brick In The Wall" sucked. You can't put all three installments together without the other six songs. It sort of ruins the story.

A cover song I really like is Foo Fighter's cover of Pink Floyd's "Have a Cigar" that was on the Mission Impossible II soundtrack.

The interesting thing about this song is that, in addition to the guest guitars by Brian May, the line-up is changed in that the song features drummer Taylor Hawkins on lead vocals and Dave Grohl on drums.

(note: I didn't even know it was Hawkins on lead vocals until I saw a video of the band performing the song live on the Foo Fighter's website)

I just liked it becasue Korn is doing something mellow like Pink Floyd. It is ruined though.

While Greg Camp is nowhere near the singer Micky Dolenz was (and still is), I did enjoy Smash Mouth's version of "I'm A Believer".
Koga already nabbed "Bohemian Polka".
Also, our friend Steve Burns did an excellent spin on TMBG's "Dead".
As for They themselves, "Istanbul", "Why Does the Sun Shine", and "Jessica" quite rule.
I'm also still digging several of Joss Stone's reworks off her first album.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Thought of some more.

I think the Per Shop Boys' version of 'Go West' is miles better than the Village People original.

I also think Muse did a very fine job covering Frankie Valli's 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You'
