Police Reunion?

The Police reunion?
Rumours are rife
05 Jan 07 - Rumours are still circulating that The Police are planning a full reunion tour for later this year.

According to music sources they will begin rehearsing next month for a jaunt that could kick off as soon as May or June.

2007 is the 30th anniversary of the band and A&M Records is planning some sort of specialty release to honour the occasion.

The label released a statement in December saying that 2007 "is the 30th anniversary of the first Police single. It is our intention to mark the anniversary by doing something special with the band's catalogue of songs. Needless to say, everyone is hopeful the band will support our plans and while early discussions have taken place, nothing has been decided.” A box set and/or a new DVD release is expected to be in the works.

Now, both Harp Magazine and Billboard have been told by sources that the rumours are definitely true, and an announcement could be made later this month.

Formed in the 70’s The Police split up in 1986 and have performed together only twice since: at Sting's wedding in 1992 and at their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

While Sting has been reluctant to consider a reunion in the past, both Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland have been busy with Police-related projects recently. Summers just published his autobiography, One Train Later, while Copeland directed a well-received documentary on the band, using old footage he had shot on the road in the '80s.
I heard the news in a tv magazine today that the Police would reunite later this year, which amazed and excited me. I always thought it would be one of the least likely reunions of my favourite bands. I immediately searched the web for confirmation, but I couldn't find much beyond speculation (like in the article above). Still, there certainly is a possibility, although some of the articles only mentioned US and UK date, and no full European tour.

Should they reunite and play in the Netherlands I'm definitely going to see them. They're one of my favourite bands and I own all their studio albums (only 5 in total) and 3 DVDs (one of which is the documentary mentioned in the article). Anyone else excited about this news, even though it's still not 100% certain?
