I remember hearing Rock the Casbah on the radio about a year ago and then downloading it. I also downloaded Rudie Can't Fail and I Fought the Law. After that, I was hooked. I had to hear the rest of the stuff these guys had, so I rushed out and bought London Calling. To this day it remains my favorite album out of my entire collection, and it's only complemented by The Clash [US], which I picked up a few months later. These guys were simply rock gods--political punk with an attitude. And they weren't afraid to experiment either. You can't beat the raw power of Complete Control and Clampdown, the smooth reggae beats of Police & Thieves, or the simplistic grooves of Lost in the Supermarket. And they never, ever sold out. Simply put, one of the best. |

I can see why people like them though, and some of their songs are quite good. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Quote of the week: "If it weren't for electricity we'd all be watching television by candlelight."- George Gobol. Easily one of the most experimental albums ever. I'd also check out Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros. Further proof that Joe Strummer is one of the coolest people ever. |
