Favorite Video Game Music?

You know, the songs you'll hear start to play in a game, and you'll stop playing for ten minutes just to listen to the whole track. List some of your own favorites, and I'll try to name off some of mine.

Phendrana Drifts (Metroid Prime)

Come on, who didn't like this one? The mixture of smooth music and a techno-esque beat just kicks ass.

Gerudo Valley (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)

There's just something enjoyable about this music. Maybe it's the sort of spaghetti western feel it has to it, but I love it.

Aria de Mezzo Carattere (Final Fantasy VI)

Just watching the opera scene over again gives me goosebumps. Even with the synthesized voices, it's beautiful. All in all, this is probably my favorite video game track of all time.

Dancing Mad (Final Fantasy VI)

This 16-minute long final boss fantasia covers a vast amount of different tones and really gets across the epicness of the final battle.

Liberi Fatali (Final Fantasy VIII)

I remember when I first got FF8, I would start a new game over and over again just to hear this music. One of the best tracks in the game.

Feel my Blade (Final Fantasy IX)

Always been my favorite song from the game. And in case it needed saying, Nobuo Uematsu is probably the greatest video game composer of all time.

Crono's Theme (Chrono Trigger)

CT probably has more memorable music for me than any other game, and the main theme is a good place to start.

Magus' Theme (Chrono Trigger)

The best boss music in the game. Even more awesome if you get Magus to join your team, and you could listen to it whenever you wanted at the End of Time.

Corridors of Time (Chrono Trigger)

My favorite track in the game. I could drift into sleep listening to it... in a good way, mind you.

Those are some of mine. List yours, people.

WW - Molgera

And it's later remix.

WW - Godhan

I wanted there to be a rematch of Godhan, like the rest of the bosses, only for the music.

WW - Hero of the Winds (yes, I am obsessed with this game's music.)

TP Ook Battle

Same as the comment on Godhan.

aLttP - Ending + Credits

Both are epic. One of my favorite endings to a game, for both the actual ending and the music.

F-Zero - Fire Field

And it's Brawl remix.

I'll edit more in later.

OOoooh boy! I have much to put here!

Wind Waker: Title
(This is a cover...but it's rocking!)

There's something so refreshing and hopeful in this opening; it's really lovely (as are the ending credits)

Wind Waker: Dragon Roost

OoT: Gerudo Valley (Val already covered that), Zelda's Lullaby (it's so beautiful), and Goron City

FF9:"You are not alone" - it's so amazing and inspiring and just - gah!

Orchestral version:

And quite possibly my fav cover of the song:

Also from FF9, "Rose of May/Loss of Me":

"Melodies of Life" is another favorite; some people don't like it because they claim the singing/lyrics are cheesy, but the melody is possibly the most beautiful theme in the series. Here's the piano version:

(Other notable songs: "Vamo alla flamenco", "Terra", "Black Mage Village", "Vivi's Theme", "The Place I'll Return to Someday")

While we're on piano themes, let's look at another great piano song, from FFX: "To Zanarkand" -

And "Suteki Da Ne" made me cry the first time I listened to it after I played through the game:

The piano version is equally stunning.

The Ending Theme deserves a listen, too.

(Other notable songs: "Lulu's Theme", "Auron's Theme", "Besaid", "Song of the Fayth")

So, um, halfway through, this list is going to be long... >_>

FF7 - Tifa's Theme. Aerith's theme is nice, but Tifa's just really hits me (I like her more than Aerith, though, so maybe I'm biased, but I think it's really touching and soft, but optimistic - Tifa).

I think most of the music from FF7 is amazing though, and the Main Theme is another that's definitely up there, but I don't want to overload you all even more than I already am! Cosmo Canyon and Cid's theme, as well as all of the battles and Jenova Absolute, are great too. Temple of the Ancients is another one.

FF8 isn't my favorite game, and a part of it is that I didn't get into the music as much (there were definitely good songs, but they just weren't my favorites, y'know?). "Eyes on me" is okay, but not as good as the earlier themes (IMO) - I love Angela Aki's version of it though:

While we're on Angela Aki, my *favorite* FF vocal song is "Kiss Me Goodbye". It's very appropriate to the game, and I'm so glad it was included (the music was not 12's strong point >_>):

Out of the realm of Final Fantasy, let's go to...MEGA MAN. "Protoman's Theme" was always one of the most amazing songs, and I wished they'd played more of it through the ending...

The main theme to MM3 was great, too.

Now, I haven't played much of Civilization IV...but my brother has, so I'm counting that. "Baba Yetu" is incredible and inspiring:

We're actually doing this in my choir - so excited!!!

Um, what are some other things...oh! Kingdom Hearts has great music! "Hikari" and "Passion" were both amazing vocal theme songs, and made me fall in love with Utada Hikaru. But I really loved songs like Scherzo Di Notte and Hallow Bastion's theme.

Traverse Town:

That's it...for now.

I'll go ahead and list a few more I thought of.

Severnaya Installation (GoldenEye 007)

A beautiful song, my fav from the game. Made me want to play the level over and over again... damn, what a great game that was.

Terra's Theme (Final Fantasy VI)

Best overworld music ever.

Searching for Friends (Final Fantasy VI)

Second-best overworld music ever.

The Awakening (Final Fantasy VI)

Ahh, listening to this brings back so many memories of playing FF6 as a youth. So many memorable tracks, it's easy to see why I loved this game.

Forever Rachel (Final Fantasy VI)

Another beautiful song, from one of the game's saddest scenes.

Into The Galaxy (Super Mario Galaxy)

Kondo did such a good job with Galaxy. I'd say it has one of the best soundtracks of any recent game.

Good Egg Galaxy (Super Mario Galaxy)

Even for such a goofy character as Mario, Galaxy sure had some amazing music.

Multi-Man Melee 1 (Super Smash Bros. Melee)

I don't think there's a more badass song in Melee, or one that makes me want to stop and listen enough that I get KO'd enjoying it.

Blazed Up Melpomene (Dead or Alive 2)

I don't know, I just love this song. I spent forever trying to find an MP3 of it to put on my player.

That's all for now, and I'm certain to add more songs later.

This thread lacks Tales music.

Tales of Eternia - Inferia Battle

It's just the first battle theme, and it already had me hooked. It's fast paced, exciting - Completely catches the mood of an adventure just starting and you're facing your first routine battles. All in an updated Linear Motion Battle System.

Tales of Eternia - Ability Test

A remix of Take up the Cross. Heard when facing Cless and Arche in the arena. Really fitting for the first cross-Tales arena fight. And speaking of Take up the Cross...

Tales of Phantasia - Take up the Cross

Not the same one from the PSX version, but pretty damn close. It better had been a good piece since it's the only regular battle music.

Tales of Symphonia - Fighting of the Spirit

Yes, Phantasia already had a version of this song, but shut up, this is awesome. Anyone who played this game and didn't like it isn't human.

Tales of Symphonia - Beat the Angel

*Snicker* Beat the angel.

Tales of the Abyss - Meaning of Birth

This plays during only one battle, but it's one of the greatest battles in the game. Music is diehard.

Tales of Destiny 2 - Dona Nobis Pacem

The last regular fight theme, and is it amazing.

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System - Hold Your Ground

One of the few things that kept me from throwing my controller through the TV during the unbelievably difficult levels that used this. (on highest difficulty, anyway)

Okami - Yami Battle

and finally:

Okami - Sunrise

I'd have to post Okami's entire soundtrack to list all the tracks I liked from it, so I'm only posting these two.

Listing these has made me want to play through WW, MA: GitS, and Okami again...

Various pieces from Dark Cloud 1&2 that rule:

Dark Cloud - Guardians of the Forest

Dark Cloud - A Sinking Ship

Dark Cloud - Owl Forest

Dark Cloud 2 - Gundorada Workshop

All of FFIX's soundtrack rules, but here's a piece I particularly like that nobody had mentioned yet. I love Uematsu's use of woody instruments to get a great 'Forest' vibe.
Trouble in the Forest

Also mentionable is... Well, everything, but the stuff he did for the villages and the themes found throughout the games is musically arresting. Stuff like the Conde Petie theme just perfectly fits what it's there for, and Uematsu himself agrees that this is his best work. Really awesome stuff.

Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country 2's entire soundtracks are amazing.
Here's a good example:
In a Snow-Bound Land from DKC2

Mega Man X had some great pieces of rock music:
Spark Mandrill:

And my personal favorite:
Armored Armadillo

More later, maybe.
