Panfan's top musical story of the day.

Fark is a wonderful place, as it's where I found most of these stories. Here are my favorites of this week. I'll update this whenever I reread Fark.

3/2/09: Iggy Pop to release jazz album indebted to French literature | News | NME.COM

Of all the people who I would put on a list to make a jazz album, Iggy Pop would probably be one of the last. From my experiences, French jazz listeners don't usually get along with sweaty shirtless punk-creators. I'm still totally checking that out. That sounds so ****ing badass.

3/3/09: Kanye: 'I am God's vessel' | Metro.co.uk

Kanye's pretty much going by the "bigger than Jesus" quote from the Beatles. But the thing with the Beatles was, they got better later in their career, Kanye's kinda going the opposite way.

3/4/09: Pitchfork: News

Tr2n is officially going to be the nerdiest movie ever. I'm going to see it opening day just for Daft Punk.

3/5/09: Radiohead Dissed Miley Cyrus Too | TwentyFourBit | Music News

Miley doesn't realize how lucky she is. If she was put into the presence of Radiohead, she'd likely be blinded by a wave of awesomeness. That or Colin would swoop down from his dressing room and bit her head off.

3/6/09: Reunited Jesus Lizard to open Pitchfork festival with set list handpicked by fans | Turn It Up - A guided tour through the worlds of pop, rock and rap

Screw Lollapalooza, if there's one Chicago-based music fest I'm going to, it's Pitchfork's.

3/7/09: 50 Cent: 'I'll Mentor Wannabe Rapper Phoenix' - Starpulse Entertainment News Blog

Things I'd buy: a 50 album with Joaquin Phoenix on it because that would be awesome.
Things I wouldn't buy: a 50 album without Joaquin Phoenix on it because that would be generic party rap like his other albums.

3/8/09: Why do you think I collected other stuff this week? Today sucked. Unless you want to hear about a RIOT at an IRON MAIDEN show in SOUTH AMERICA. WHAT A SURPRISE.

“If someone, like, said that, like, ‘I would cry if I met them. I really want to meet them,’ I would freaking, like, run and, like, give them the biggest hug in the world because that’s cool, you know?” Cyrus said. “But they were like, ‘We don’t really do that.’”
She must've gotten the wrong impression from all those mega-happy Radiohead songs. Like.

3/9/09: AVRIL LAVIGNE - LAVIGNE TO LAUNCH FIRST FRAGRANCE

CUZ AVRIL IS TTLY PUNX LOL. I remember hearing back in the 70's that they had Sid Vicious Cologne. It smelt like sewers. Everybody bought it.

3/10/09: YouTube to remove all premium music videos | News | NME.COM

The PRS needs to shut up. How many musicians actually ****ing care if they don't get paid for their videos on channels like Universal Music Group?

So I missed this ****, but now Radiohead is even more my favorite band for shunning Miley ****ing Cyrus.

I really don't like people who claim they make music so they can please small children. Cyrus doesn't make music as art, she makes **** to cater to people who will pay to touch her garment. Music is usually made by the musician in a manner that pleases the musician, and as such, most honest musicians admit they make music for themselves. I mean, ****, most art is 89% selfish and 11% not, since every artist at least thinks 'will people like this'? However, Cyrus's music is 100% processed ****. This means Miley Cyrus is now officially proven to not be a musician, as if there wasn't already enough evidence.

Case closed, Radiohead wins forever.

Today's story isn't funny, and I'm not going to be joking. This is about an Motown singer turned City Council member who needs to shut her ****ing mouth. Martha Reeves. Remember Dancing in the Street? Yeah, that was her.

Leno's Free Show Stirs Controversy - ClickonDetroit.com- msnbc.com

IT'S NOT IN DETROIT WAH WAH CRY ME A RIVER. The Jay Leno show at Cobo or Ford Field would make that weekend even crazier. The Palace is something like 30 minutes away from Detroit. The DETROIT PISTONS play there. Not the AUBURN HILLS PISTONS. Shut your ****ing mouth and be happy that JAY LENO IS PLAYING A FREE SHOW IN DETROIT, YES, DETROIT FOR UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE.

Guess what? I live in Livonia, MI. It's still one of the largest cities in Michigan, but not as many people know where Livonia is as they do, say, Detroit, Kalamazoo, Flint, Grand Rapids, Etc. So I say DETROIT. Because their economy effects ours too, and it's ten minutes away.

Quit BAWWWWWing. Maybe I'll listen to you when you and your God-AWFUL city council DO SOMETHING besides continuously play the race card when somebody tells you something like that. [/endrant]

Okay, you if you guys read through that rant, you deserve a funny story.

^^I always sorta had the impression that Radiohead wouldn't do a meeting like that for anyone.

^I never really cared for "Dancing in the Street" in any of its versions.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^Yeah, they wouldn't. Yorke's pretty shy, and the rest of the band (save for Ed) is probably even more shy. Thom's done the exact same thing to Chris Martin, so yeah.

Iggy Popp has actually been published in a scholarly journal. The man is quite intelligent.

Update on yesterday: Reeves doesn't know anything about the area. Today she said that the Palace is an hour and a half away from Det. 45 minutes tops, coming from a realistic perspective. Huh, as I read this I see a website with a "Newest page: Martha/Vandellas Tribute" page.

Anyway 3/12/09

The Dead Weather

It has a White Stripe/Raconteur, a Kill, a Queen of the Stone Age, and another Raconteur. Two streaming songs. As a fan of White's work, I'll probably pick their album up come release time.

Andrew Lloyd Webber says that there will not be another band like The Beatles because of internet piracy, I personally don't know what the hell he's going on about: Andrew Lloyd Webber: internet piracy will stop emergence of bands like The Beatles - Telegraph

"American Idiot: The Musical", because SOMEBODY has to kill the theater: Green Day’s “American Idiot” Musical To Debut September ‘09 : Rolling Stone : Rock and Roll Daily

though that does have an amazing link even if it is old: U2 “Spider-Man” Musical Swinging Onto Broadway February 2010 : Rolling Stone : Rock and Roll Daily That's the coolest thing ever.
