Guilty Displeasures

This is the thread for music that is widely loved and respected that you respect and feel you should love but just can't muster up the love for it.

For me, it's always been Bruce Springsteen. I've got a great deal of respect for him, I just don't really enjoy his music.

I also really, really can't stand AC/DC. I'm not quite sure if I would count this as a Guilty Displeasure since I don't really respect them the way I respect someone like Springsteen, though.

I've never really been able to get that into the Sex Pistols.

I'd also agree with Bombert. If I think of any that I'm not stealing, I'll post them.

Iron Maiden. There's just something about Bruce Dickinson that I just couldn't bring myself to like.

The Sex Pistols are most famous for destroying rock, not for playing it well.

That said, John Lydon is great, especially in "Open Up" by Leftfield:

^The flaw in their plan was that nobody cares what your point is when you play music that badly.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

For acclaimed music by people who truly cannot play their instruments, try The Shaggs. They make the Sex Pistols sound like professionals.

That being said, I am baffled by the sheer number of mentions the Sex Pistols are getting.

It's more of a hatred of sid vicious for the most part, I don't downright hate the Pistols, and I'll play a song like "God Save the Queen" on occasion, but stacked up with other early punk bands like The Ramones, The Stooges, and The Clash I don't like them nearly as much.

Agree about John Lydon though. Public Image Ltd. is pretty awesome.

What about "Anarchy in the UK"? That song is pretty much the definition of punk.

^ WASH YOUR MOUTH OUT WITH SOAP YOUNG MAN!!

Anyways, everyone at my school loves all those alternative bands, like Panic at the Disco and Fall out Boy. I absolutely can't stand them.

^Actually, neither of those bands qualify as "respected musicians" here at VGF with most people, so don't worry, we're with you on that one.

As for the Beatles, I like them, but I mainly respect their legacy and impact. Not everything they ever did stands out to me... I still love Eleanor Rigby, though.
