Plus I've been out of the musical loop for some time now, but since my desktop has a chance of being fixed, I'd like to celebrate it's return with some good stuff. This thread could also be used for others who need good new music as well. Right now I've been in the mood for stuff of the following genres: Post-Rock (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky, etc.) Sludge Metal (Boris, Sunn O))), Kylesa) Post-Hardcore (At the Drive-In, Thrice, Thursday) And of course the usual doses of psychedelic rock and noise rock (The Flaming Lips, Animal Collective, etc.) Also digging stuff like Boards of Canada as well. Main priorities at the moment: **** Buttons - Tarot Sport Atlas Sound - Logos The Flaming Lips - Embryonic Mew - No More Stories Yo La Tengo - Popular Songs Brand New - Daisy Girls - Album The rest of Boris' discography (only have Pink) whatever I don't have of Thrice yet Between the Buried and Me's discography (prog. metal but I still want it) |

However, what I'm really interested in finding is pre-Communist Revolution Chinese pop music, which I'm willing to bet none of you have... ... Wow, that sounded pretentious. No, I'd really like some good electronic music. Something along the lines of Daft Punk... but not Daft Punk themselves. |

And I'm not into Hercules and Love Affair as much as I was, but at least get "Blind." It's one of the best dance pop songs of the decade. Oh, and Black Moth Super Rainbow. I wouldn't consider them the same genre of electronic as Daft Punk, but they're amazing. A guy I know from the GameFAQs Alt. Board also makes some pretty awesome chiptune along the lines of Dan Deacon and BMSR. I'll send you some of his EPs if you're interested. Luigiman, I'll get some stuff for you sometime tomorrow. Any specific bands?

Post-Hardcore Sparta - Wiretap Scars Again, sorry if this is a waste of your time. ![]() Actually, if this is a waste of your time, maybe you could recommend something for me instead. Recently I've been listening to stuff like Beirut, but I like all sorts of music (metal, reggae, techno, indie, etc...) I'm also interested in Brand New's album, Daisy. I like what I've heard so far, but I still haven't gotten it.

Zion, and 65daysofstatic (and somewhat Eluvium) so it's not really a waste of my time. As for stuff like Beirut, these are probably a waste of your time because they're so obvious, but... Sufjan Stevens - Illinois, Michigan, and Seven Swans Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes and Sun Giant EP Iron & Wine - The Creek Drank the Cradle and The Shepherd's Dog Arcade Fire - Funeral (but I'm pretty sure most people have Funeral by now) and Luigiman, I know you like Franz Ferdinand a lot, so... Bloc Party - Silent Alarm (maybe Intimacy if you want more) The Killers - Hot Fuss and then all their singles afterwards. The rest isn't good enough to warrant buys. The Strokes - Is This It and Room on Fire Tokyo Police Club - A Lesson in Crime EP Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not and you also like Lily Allen, so female pop singers that don't suck: Feist - The Reminder and Let It Die Bat for Lashes - Two Suns Florence and the Machine - Lungs The Pipettes - We Are the Pipettes |

Some more obscure stuff would be maybe Espers and Phosphorescent, and as to stuff similar to Zack's constant fusion of world music with folk, look into Yeasayer's All Hour Cymbals if you haven't already. @luigiman: I back Panfan's Bloc Party plug. Artists of their ilk may be up your ally. Maybe some Mystery Jets and stuff along those lines. You might also like Dance Punk - Start with Les Savy Fav's Let's Stay Friends or Death From Above 1979's You Are A Woman, I Am A Machine. They're both phenomenal. |

Robyn and Annie are also very highly praised but I'm not as into them as other hipsters are. They're ok though. and how did i forget dfa1979 And also for Jenocide 4AD records' charity album Dark Was the Night is fantastic and has many bands and singers of the genre like Beirut, with many of my recommendations. |

EDIT: Scratch, that, everyone. LUIGIMAN, If you need Comedy, I recommend Patton Oswalt, Mitch Hedberg and Brian Posehn. (Brian is really dirty, though.) Also, check out The Comedians of Comedy in general. Last edited by Vapor; 11-07-2009 at 12:07 PM. |

And while I would never recommend seeing Deadmau5 at a show, some of his productions are rather good, hence why I included Ghosts n Stuff on there, in case people haven't heard that one yet. EDIT: One more. Track is like Daft Punk meets Justice. Genre: Nu disco Last edited by Zharen; 11-13-2009 at 12:21 AM.

Shibuya-kei is basically Japanese French music, ie, it's made in Japan but strongly influenced by Serge Gainsbourg. Yes, Serge Gainsbourg is so awesome that there's an entire genre influenced by him. I really hope at least someone listens to some of it: Pizzicato Five (This Year's Girl, Happy End of the World, Playboy & Playgirl) Puffy AmiYumi (Anything they've done since Jet CD is pop music heaven) Fantastic Plastic Machine (Self-titled album, Luxury) Buffalo Daughter (Self-titled album) Cornelius (Fantasma, Point) Cibo Matto are often lumped in with Shibuya-kei... though I really consider Cibo Matto to be an American act, they do definitely share a similarity in sound. |
