Meaningful lyrics, powerful music, and unique sound I believe Dream Theater far surpasses all other modern bands, and even previous ones when it comes to... how overall good they are. Does anyone agree with me? |

I was really into them a few years ago, but since I've kinda gotten out of the prog loop in recent years I haven't really listened to them that much. If you don't mind harsh vocals I'd suggest Between the Buried and Me. They're kind of a mix between the DT-style prog metal and metalcore. |

They are good not denying(misspelled most likely) that they are good. Yet I find myself only being able to listen to one or two of their songs till I switch to either Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Tom Waits, or Gorgol Bordello. Its interesting but I just see as their songs don't quite catch my attention compared to the others. Still an awesome band when I do get the urge to listen to them. Favorite song might be Strange Deja Vu. |

I never got into the whole theatrical prog metal side of things and stuck with lighter bands like Porcupine Tree, who in my opinion are just as solid technically but a lot more subtle (despite their last two albums having a large amount of metal influence as well). Then again, that's just me. I back Panny's suggestion, and also put forth Opeth (less harsh vocals than BTBAM, but when they're harsh they're pretty brutal). |

Sorry to get off topic but I'm backing that one as well as the previous. Music Videos are weird but awesome in their own respect. |

But yeah, Dream Theater has got to be my favorite modern band, and definately one of the most talented. | |

I was at a concert to see Megadeth, but Dream Theater completely changed my approach to music (no lie). Been a die hard DT and progressive metal fan ever since. |
