Anybody got any plans to attend any concerts this year? Which ones? Who? Why? Also, if not, any you wish you could go to? Did you attend any last year? So far this year my only plans are to camp out at Coachella. Highlights of that include: Thom Yorke, Porcupine Tree, Gorillaz, Vampire Weekend, Les Claypool, Faith No More, Muse, etc etc AWESOMESAUCE. F*CK YEAR __________________ |

Whatever & whenever our station concert is this semester. Oh, & tomorrow I'm giving an unannounced concert in our student union; I'll be singing the entire catalog of the Polyphonic Spree in my opera voice, with the music playing on a speaker next to me. And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" |

Also Thom Yorke ???? from Coachella would be amazing to see. Otherwise I don't really have time for concerts until summer, and I haven't seen a lot of tour schedules/venue lineups yet. Here's hoping Radiohead make a Detroit appearance after the release of their new album. |

Any other concerts will probably depend on whether or not any bands play reasonably close. |

At least I'm going to see Muse in March with Silversun Pickups. Not a horrible tradeoff. EDIT: Vapor, you're seeing Muse in March too? If you're going to Nashville for that, we should totally meet up lol. |

For $90? And it's in Chicago so it's entirely possible for some of my friends and I to make it? I love you, Pitchfork. I really do. |

The South is not a great place to live for concerts, especially smack dab in the middle of Atlanta and Nashville, the two most common destinations for touring acts in this section of the US, but they're both several hours away and the acts that I really want to see never even go there. Bleh. |

Still sad that I can't make Bonnaroo. Anyway, I think I'll review the Muse/SSPU show in full just because. Interesting fact: I saw the bassist for SSPU, Nicki, outside the venue (she even gave me a passing smile, as most polite human beings do), but because she was in a hurry I didn't stop her. Pretty interesting luck, though. Silversun Pickups is actually pretty damn good live. I remember their songs being really high-energy about midway through and at the end. Their set was mostly (and naturally) comprised of stuff from Swoon, but the Carnavas tracks they played were sick. They opened, oddly enough, with Growing Old is Getting Old, which is an ambient song. It was epic, and I love the song on its own, but it's just not an opening song. I would have saved it for second and used it to build up to the string of stronger pieces they had lined up for their other six songs. Either way, despite the audience reacting rather coldly to them (mostly because no band can really seem to successfully open for Muse. Some Muse fans are kind of asses sometimes) they managed to pump out some great music even through their self-proclaimed hangovers. Muse themselves were on a completely different plane. The one problem I had was that they didn't do Map of the Problematique, even though it's a setlist staple for this tour. Even so, we got to hear a very rare performance of MK Ultra, a song they should certainly show more love to. The heavy hitters (New Born, Plug in Baby, Stockholm Syndrome, etc.) were headbangers for me, and stuff like Starlight and Time is Running Out got some fantastic audience participation. Oh, and the light show. THE ****ING LIGHT SHOW. It's a truly impressive sight, and they're certainly proud of it. The awesome stage setup (the band actually plays most of the show hoisted up on three vertical columns, with the center column built to spin Dom Howard around in circles) enters into it too, and the opening with the epic videos projected onto the pillars and the curtains dropping to the band playing Uprising really served to get me inhumanly excited (which was awkward later, but **** it it's Muse). I mean, damn. Muse really delivers live. Their playing was tight, Bellamy's solos and antics were badass, and their setlist contained absolutely no bull**** (or at least the songs I've deemed bull****). Fantastic show, even for the **** seats I was in. Last edited by Galefore; 03-23-2010 at 04:30 PM. |
