I HAS RECORDS

My dad recently acquired a record player/turntable/phonograph/whatever you want to call it for us. Which is great. I've found dozens of records through a combination of my basement, a thrift shop, my grandma's basement and my mom's friend who happens to have lots of random stuff lying around.

The time period ranges from 1986 to 1921. There's Classical, Prog, showtunes, post-punk, folk, AOR, a blaxploitation soundtrack and moar. This is gonna be awesome.

Records are cool, but current recording technology has finally matched the sampling frequency of standard vinyl recordings. DVDA and SuperCD still aren't standard, but give it another 15 years and consumers should be sold on something newish. It's too bad the average consumer thinks 44.1 khz is decent sound, though. I'd master at higher frequencies if consumer audio software could dependably play 32-bit, 96 khz audio.
