If anyone's willing to show their stuff around, we could start a WIP topic or something. I've been writing music on and off for a long time now, and I enjoy talking about it very much. It's all subjective, though, and I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with the attitudes as sites like OC - it's a lot like Deviant Art. You can't show anything you've done without having the style criticized heavily, and people in general are much more negative with their feedback, which is rarely constructive at all. So I think we can at least have a decent time of showing our stuff to our friends, if anyone else wants to participate. You don't have to be the ballsiest guy in the world to show your creativity to others, but it helps when it's in a positive environment. If you guys just have a youtube video of something you've done, I'm cool with those, too. Thoughts/comments? |

I couldn't afford any decent equipment like a mixer when I was younger, so I just used distortion as a kind of "if you can't beat em" technique. I'll do some stuff that doesn't have heavy chorus or distortion on the next track I record vox for, since I got pretty sick of the whole all-chorus-and-distortion-all-the-time thing I was doing. I'm better with technical crap like limiting and compression now, anyway. Actualy, the stuff in Without Faces is pretty raw, actually. No distortion until the end, just a bit of reverb and a backup layer panned slightly wider until the chorus effect picks up on backup vox at the line "I am the one" with the beat. I have quite the archive of hip hop made with various groups I made beats for stored on various computers. I've actually just now gotten back into it after a two-year break, providing some beats for a good friend of mine who's an upstart rapper, but pretty damn good for someone who's just starting. I'm actually planning on recording some demos of some Britpop-inspired music I've been writing for the past year or so, though I only really like the song I wrote Monday night that much. My recording equipment in my apartment is inferior to what I was recording with at my parent's house, but you might see me pop in sharing a few songs over the next few weeks. |

I have an old copy of Propellerhead Reason, a flute and many other acoustical instruments (Out-of-tune piano, didgeridoo, keybs). I've done a few completed songs and many, many unfinished projects are lying around on the computer in my living room. It's in a general tranceybient style, occasionally with odd time and rhythms, and all instrumental. Maybe I'll share some here later. |

I would recommend finding a Casio keyboard with those House-style voice tables so you can spam the "COME ON" and "GET UP" samples and the record scratch sound. That's how you know ****'s professional. Quote:

I also write solo stuff, which I usually have other people play while I sing and do my best to "arrange" because I can't play a guitar yet and my piano skills are shabby at best. Since I am in the throes of writing two separate albums right now, I shall let you guys hear some WIP stuff as soon as I have it. Last edited by Galefore; 08-03-2010 at 03:17 PM. |

I also began fooling around with madtracker a while back, and some of the stuff actually turned out pretty nice, I just can't upload them because of interweb speed, plus I don't have the money to pay to madtracker to completely call them my own. Most of the good stuff I made was a type of synth based classical. Along with a little acid-like stuff (that was OK). I haven't bee using the program in a while tho. I also wrote a tune for guitar by ear... Just haven't recorded it yet... I also plan to start recording some beatboxxing once I stop procrastinating on practice. I'm also thinking about getting into harmonica. |

Though I've been debating if I should get a keyboard or bass. Keyboard would be better in solo stuff, but bass would be better for band stuff. Probably not getting either til next summer anyway |
