Smile Anyone else up to co-writing a chiptune style track?

Just curious if anyone else does this kind of stuff here, and if they'd like to collab. If I don't suit the style of the other thread, it's cool but I'd like to do something fast and bangin like a Mega Man or Ninja Gaiden style song. If you do programming but don't know how to do chiptunes, it's pretty easy to get NES-alike VST instruments to work with, so the offer's open for anyone with the software and the interest.

I've got a roommate with a laptop, but once school and football are going I won't have much time to work with music.

EDIT: Still will have FL Studio, so I can whip up some stuff in two weeks and get back to you with some ideas.

Awesome dude. Anything that exports to midi is usable, really, because I can plug it into a totally diff style synth or whatever. :3

I read that as "a Chipmunks style track".

I'm somewhat disappointed.

This sounds interesting, too bad I don't know anything about how to make chiptunes. :/

Well other than you can use a few sounds in Madtracker to make one.

Guess I'm going to use my search engine nou.

Oh look OCRemix, that's always nice.

How'd I miss this?

I would be happy to help. For personal reasons, I can't download anything big like FL Studio. I have FamiTracker, though. Would that work?

Um... no. But it exports NSF, which I can convert to MIDI.

Well that's almost as good. I'm guessing it can't import, though, which represents the problem that you would have to start the piece.

Don't know anything about it. Wouldn't want to spend the time learning something like that when I've got Ableton sitting around, though.

It's the tool that Daisuke Amaya used to make the very good music in Cave Story.

Cool, sounds interesting enough. Software takes a lot of time to familiarize yourself with. I use Orion Platinum because it has a more mainstream software-like interface, but it's not so hot for live performances. Ableton's supposed to be more portable/diverse. I've got a copy of Reason but it's too much like a messed up rackmount, aka hardware, which isn't where my familiarity with programming originates.

I actually started using Acid to mix with, but was really disappointed with how little control it actually gives you over the sound of the music. Instead of trying to build something good from the ground up to write on, they just kept adding programming and effects functions on top of their playlist mix interface, which is really awkward. I tried 5.0 recently, and honestly didn't even know what I was looking at.

And Pro Tools is pretty ****e for MIDI, so I won't even go there. I do most of my recording with Cool Edit Pro 2, which is basically the same thing as Adobe Audition (Adobe just bought it and added VST/dx functionality to it, which is totally unnecessary since my fx are done on the fly in Orion).
