Best of 2010

2010 was, for me at least, one of the better years in recent memory in terms of music. What do all of you guys think were the best albums/songs/bands from 2010? Here's my top 5 albums:

5) Darkwater - "Where Stories End"

4) Star One - "Victims of the Modern Age"

3) Seventh Wonder - "The Great Escape"

2) Echoes - "Nature | Existence"

1) Haken - "Aquarius"

Honorable Mention: Vanden Plas - "Seraphic Clockwork"

And one final shout out to Hans Zimmer for composing the Inception soundtrack.

I'm not much of a music person. The only album I bought last year was Plastic Beach.

Kanye West made one of the best music videos of all time with "Power." That was so awesome. Then he made an instant-classic rap album to go along with it. Big Boi's album was also an instant-classic, making this the best year for rap music since 2006 with the one-two punch of Fishscale and Hell Hath No Fury.

Erykah Badu and Janelle Monae rocked out on the R&B tip.

The Suburbs was slightly disappointing but still a solid album from Arcade Fire.

Also, Plastic Beach was yet another great album from my hero Damon Albarn and his collective known as Gorillaz, and "On Melancholy Hill" might be my favorite song of 2010. The Fall was mostly unnecessary, though.

Still haven't had a chance to listen to all of Joanna Newsom's Have One on Me, but what I've heard (the first disc) is magnificent.

All Day by Girl Talk was neat. Sadly, Panda Bear's new album wasn't released as planned.

Still haven't had a chance to check out the new Deerhunter.

lol i c wut u did thar

Anyway, my top 9 is as follows:

  1. The National - High Violet
  2. Coheed and Cambria - Year of the Black Rainbow
  3. Frightened Rabbit - Winter of Mixed Drinks
  4. Motion City Soundtrack - My Dinosaur Life
  5. Foals - Total Life Forever
  6. The Tallest Man on Earth - The Wild Hunt
  7. Circa Survive - Blue Sky Noise
  8. Anais Mitchell - Hadestown
  9. Eluvium - Similes
No particular order after number 3, and some of these were a lot more awesome than others. Can't say I listened to all of the music from this year, but I tried to touch on at least every release that looked interesting.

ok if we are talking music there are some mentions that have to be said.

Topping my list is Slash soloalbum

What can one say it's slash first solo album and it's slash can you go wrong?

NO

And what he have along with him a whole lot of other people (Ozzy, Lemmy, Iggy pop and more) Holy s*** this will be some great times.

Then along comes the wörld is yours with Motörhead

It makes your Speakers smell like old socks, whiskey and smelly blue jeans along with erupting in the awesome that is pure Rock n roll.

Sabaton - Coat of Arms

As a WWII geek, hobby war historian and Rock n Roller this is a must have.
Other would probably call this metal i prefer the term Rock n roll in general but that's not the point right now.

Main theme here is War and Heavy Meta http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HeavyMeta.

And oh yeah Francis Rossi realeased some single, can't remeber the name right now though

I got a strong, but still kinda awkward All in Good Time from a still-recovering Barenaked Ladies.
I got Joss Stone making herself the hot version of Bruce Willis, as Colour Me Free Or Die Hard is a lot better than her 2nd album, but not nearly as good as her 1st & 3rd.
Sweet Nothings' Live from the Analog Hole was cool, but considering it's a bootleg album that I produced for all the friends I have who are in or connected to the group, I feel like it's something of an ego trip for me to call it the best of the year.
I only really got into 6 new records this year, & the top half of them play out like so:

3) Lindsey Stomp ~Lindsey Stirling

Good: Stirling is sterling on her violin. Everything's freaking awesome...
Bad: ...except for the synth drums. Also, it's too short; give this girl money so she can afford more studio time.

2) Here Comes Science ~They Might Be Giants

Good: Creative use of both new & old material from the guys.
Bad: A few songs are forced or not-particularly-relevant.

1) Volume Two ~She & Him

Good: It begins.
Bad: It ends.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

how could i forget Strike Back With the baseballs.

Ok i know it's a rerealease of the album realeased in late 2009 but they have thrown in half a albums worht in extra material so i will claim im half right atleast.

So the baseballs ey, looks like some rejeced rockabilly act if you ask me!

That's partly right they play rockabilly but it's fresh rockabilly out with those song about the cool cars in the 50 and in with contemporary music covers from Lady Gagas pokerface to Rihannas and Jay Zs Umbrella.

So if you can't stand modern music with the "Dunkadunka" Beat atleast make a listen to this German/Swedish band and see if you have to re-evaluate your point of music of today is crap.

Pretty sure Iron Maiden---Final Frontier and The Sword---Warp Riders were the only new albums I picked up this year. They were both good.

I feel lame saying this.

The only 2010 album's I've listened to in it's entirety are:

Stars - Five Ghosts
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
Gorillaz - The Fall
Royksopp - Senior

So I can't really say best or worst or whatever. I enjoyed those four, though <3

I'll probably check out some of the albums you guys mentioned in the near future.

I have very little connecting me to current music, atm, and I've just been occasionally exploring back catalogues of musicians I already like. Nothing seems noteworthy in music anymore, IMO.
