Kirschner's song selection for the Monkees arguably contributed to their early success...but "Daydream Believer" was recorded AFTER the band got Kirschner fired from their label for being an arrogant control freak who didn't know where his authority ended. Irony, thy name is Grammy. --The president of the music Academy all but declared financial war against the RIAA. Awesome. Anybody else watch? What moments stuck out for you? And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" |

It was implicit. And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" |

| AND HE PRAYS Join Date: Jun 2005 Location: Grayskull Gender: Posts: 18,806 Thanks: 1,405 Thanked 2,247 Times in 1,337 Posts Blog Entries: 15 | I heard Arcade Fire won Album of the Year. I regained some hope in humanity at that moment. Then I found out that the God-awful "Need You Now" won Record and Song of the Year, when it was competing with "**** You" AKA hands-down the best song of 2010. Also, please tell me that Alex Chilton got recognition in the in memoriam. I heard that Guru of Gang Starr got snubbed, and that they didn't play any Dio. Also guessing that indie deaths like Mark Linkous, Trish Keenan, and Jay Reatard didn't get any love either. Edit: Language warning. Who Is Arcade Fire??!!? So hilarious. They had the Goddamn #1 album in America and nobody knows who they are. Also, basically every music critic ever put it in their top ten albums of last year. And plus I am in music circles where not knowing who Arcade Fire are is like not knowing who the Beatles are. Best ones are the ones who think popularity = quality and the people who think that "Arcade Fire" is the album and The Suburbs is the band. Though speaking of Arcade Fire... they won Album of the year, but Black Keys won Alternative Album of the Year? How does that even work? Last edited by Panfan; 02-15-2011 at 06:25 PM. |

I'd heard of Arcade Fire before, but the first time I actually heard them was on SNL last fall. They did a digital short with Samberg that week, too. And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" |

But, there is not enough discussion on Esperanza-freaking-Spalding here. Seriously...she's amazing. And she beat Justin Bieber. RESPECT, people! |

Where G stands for Grammy. ![]() I don't actually know much of her stuff. I've liked what little I've heard, though. I'm also liking Mumford & Sons and Florence & The Machine, so either of them winning would've been fine by me, too. (But they're both kinda weird, & weird tends not to win major categories; e.g., in a nearly 30-year career, They Might Be Giants has won only in specialty categories: Soundtrack Song and Children's Album.) She performed better there than on the morning show. She's got a decent voice and playing skills, but no real sense of smooth lyrical pacing. It's good background music for a restaurant, but not something I'd buy as a single or album. I haven't heard anything off Arcade Fire's new album, but I haven't owned a radio in months either. |

I could probably post an entire topic filled with quotations just dedicated to the fact you disagree whenever you can. |

Kargath's got similar tastes musically to me so I imagine he's probably just not into it. I'm not only not into it, I don't really see it doing anything new or interesting, and it's actually got a pretty boring cacophonic quality to it that I find irritating. Kargath not only usually lacks tact, however, he seems to consider that a positive trait. |

Totally not interesting to me, totally not something I would listen to, and totally, definitely something that would piss me off if it was playing in the background at a restaurant I was eating at. It's all the opposite of what I like in music, so I sympathise with Karg: mediocrity at its, well, usual.http://theDragonsHoard.bigcartel.com | Handmade gemstone jewellery |

None of the music I listen to will ever receive mainstream recognition, and that's fine with me. The only band in the entire nomination list that I have any slight interest in is Muse, and I was rather surprised they got nominated at all because their latest album was quite subpar in my opinion. I just feel like the Grammys are more about who you are, not what you did. |
