Since the list is done in the ever-annoying one-person-per-page style, I've compiled them all here: 100) Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac) 99) Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) 98) Alex Lifeson (Rush) 97) Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) 96) Bruce Springsteen 95) Roger McGuinn (Byrds) 94) Peter Buck (REM) 93) Paul Simon 92) Dimebag Darrell (Pantera) 91) Dave Davies (Kinks) 90) Tom Verlaine (Television) 89) Bonnie Raitt 88) Carl Perkins 87) James Hetfield (Metallica) 86) J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.) 85) Andy Summers (Police) 84) Joe Perry (Aerosmith) 83) Eddie Hazel (Funkadelic) 82) Nels Cline (Wilco) 81) Lou Reed (Velvet Underground) 80) Buddy Holly 79) Mike Campbell (Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers) 78) John Fahey 77) Willie Nelson 76) Robby Krieger (Doors) 75) Joni Mitchell 74) Dick Dale (Del-Tones) 73) Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) 72) John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers) 71) Robert Johnson 70) Jack White (White Stripes) 69) Richard Thompson (Fairpoint Convention) 68) John McLaughlin (Miles Davis, Mahavishnu Orchestra) 67) T-Bone Walker 66) Leslie West (Vagrants, Mountain) 65) Slash (Guns n' Roses) 64) Duane Eddy 63) Johnny Winter 62) Robert Fripp (King Crimson) 61) Dickey Betts (Allman Bros) 60) Ron Asheton (Stooges) 59) Robbie Robertson (Bob Dylan, The Band) 58) Peter Green (Bluesbreakers, Fleetwood Mac) 57) Rory Gallagher 56) Albert Collins 55) John Lennon (Beatles, no mention of solo work) 54) Joe Walsh (James Gang, Eagles) 53) Otis Rush 52) Clarence White (Kentucky Colonels, Byrds) 51) Johnny Marr (Smiths) 50) Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple, Rainbow, Blackmore's Night) 49) Muddy Waters 48) Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead) 47) Stephen Stills (Buffalo Springfield, CSN&Y) 46) Jerry Garcia (Grateful Dead) 45) Link Wray 44) Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) 43) Hubert Sumlin (Howlin' Wolf) 42) Mike Bloomfield (Butterfield Blues Band, Bob Dylan) 41) Mick Ronson (Davie Bowie) 40) Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) 39) Steve Cropper (Mar-Keys, Sam & Dave, Otis Redding, Booker T, Blues Brothers,...) 38) The Edge (U2) 37) Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones) 36) Randy Rhoads (Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne) 35) John Lee Hooker 34) Curtis Mayfield (Impressions) 33) Prince 32) Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) 31) Ry Cooder (Captain Beefheart) 30) Elmore James 29) Scotty Moore (Elvis Presley) 28) Johnny Ramone (Ramones) 27) Bo Diddley 26) Brian May (Queen) 25) Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) 24) Angus Young (AC/DC) 23) Buddy Guy 22) Frank Zappa 21) Chet Atkins 20) Carlos Santana 19) James Burton (Ricky Nelson, Elvis Presley,...) 18) Les Paul 17) Neil Young (Crazy Horse, Buffalo Springfield, CSNY) 16) Derek Trucks (Allman Bros) 15) Freddy King 14) David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) 13) Albert King 12) Stevie Ray Vaughn 11) George Harrison (Beatles, Traveling Wilburys) 10) Pete Townshend (Who) 9) Duane Allman (um...Allman Bros) 8) Eddie Van Halen (um...Van Halen) 7) Chuck Berry 6) B.B. King 5) Jeff Beck (Yardbirds) 4) Keith Richards (Rolling Stones) 3) Jimmy Page (Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin) 2) Eric Clapton (Yardbirds, Cream) 1) Jimi Hendrix It's rather disappointing that some mediocre players like Cobain made the list when total masters like Jim West were left off, but that's how the votes fell. Also disappointing that only 2 women are on the list, & neither of them is Nancy Wilson. And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" |

I remember seeing RS' "Top 50 Guitar Songs" ever and "Only Shallow" was on it, and being really surprised. |

Though sidenote: As much as I've always disliked "Hotel California", it's less annoying than the Spanish cover of it by the Gipsy Kings. Mostly because stoner douches decide to have it on their mixes because it was in the Big Lebowski. |
