During the last session I completed my drum tracks, and I learned that producers are, in essence, musical drill sergeants. They challenged me to drastically improve my approach to drumming and the results were really, really cool... So here's hoping the music we end up with at the end of this recording session is something WAY more than the sketchy, badly mixed demos we have up on our facebook. Anyway, I'll be using this topic to blog about our experiences in the studio, on the road, and just what it's like in general to be in a startup band from Mississippi. Hopefully, I'll have huge stuff to talk about soon. Things to come: Playing the Whiskey A Go-Go in the spring, playing BOTH Rockapalooza festivals and the Hard Rock tour that goes with it, writing more new stuff, label exploits, and a full tour. All of this is confirmed to be coming within the next year, and I am quite stoked. Pictures, stories, and music to follow. Hopefully, my VGF brothas shall follow me on this journey. ![]() |

I was using that topic as a general dump for my "musical exploits" in general, at a time when I didn't think S7S would be a full time thing. Since a significant amount of stuff has changed since then, I felt I should make a topic for stories and whatnot about the band, since most everyone else involved in a band/music project has a dedicated topic for just that purpose. |

I really think you guys are great, I wish I could be there to help out. If you ever tour internationally (I fully believe you might) you'll have to hook up with us over here, as well. And yeah, some producers are very forward with their demands. They can exhaust a band, but as newbies it's good to listen to their input. If they push you guys hard, stay positive about it but take everything with a grain of salt. The producer's job is to help the band figure out where they want to go, not push them where the label or producer wants them to go. That said, I'm sure you're in safe enough hands. Me personally, I'd crush the soul out of someone else's band, because I just keep recording until someone picks a riff that catches my ear and throw out like 90% of everything. Very excited to hear what comes from it, though. |

The EP is shaping up. "Big" guitars are down, some of the leads are down, and a good third of vox are done. Bass and drums are 100% done. We've got one more session before this thing is completely finished, then a mixing and mastering period. The unmixed demo versions Travis sent home with us are unbelieavable in themselves; considering the low quality of our previous recordings, you guys may not believe it's even the same band. Pretty stoked for you all to hear it! I'm going to get some videos from the studio up ASAP, since I want you guys to witness firsthand the off-kilter way Travis pulls the best out of a musician. I'm honored to have worked with such a wise and musical guy who was so willing to help turn us from crappy local band into something hopefully worth something. ALSO. I am booking our next few shows. If you know ANY good venues, HALP. I would like some suggestions of good places to play in your state, so, VGF... Get at me. And I hope to see you when we come a-rollin' through. ![]() |

Hardcore crowds might find our sound too tame despite our live show, and indie kids might not find us pretentious enough. :P |

Also if you're looking for venues in Detroit, I really like the Majestic. They have various different enues usually depending on how "big" your band is. They have a lounge, a bowling/billiards place, a cafe, and a theater area. They have a tendency towards indie and underground hip hop, but there's plenty of rock, metal, and punk that goes on there too. Last edited by Panfan; 12-11-2011 at 08:50 PM. |

So, we're playing Tampa, Little Rock, and Los Angeles for sure. Booking's been fun so far. Again, any venue suggestions and whatnot are appreciated. If you live in one of the mentioned cities, prepare for face annihilation. |

The promoter decided to back out on doing the Nashville incarnation of the festival and our guitar players decided they were gonna withdraw from doing it at all. Not really a decision I support, but considering the promoter's inability to properly promote and organize the festival, it's not really all that big of a loss. I'mma go out of my way to get up to Michigan though. |
