Rest in peace, greatest system next to the SNES.

I'll miss you, PS2.

Damn it, Beam. It would have taken you a shorter amount of time to check the word's correct spelling than to type all that.

And as for the PS2 thing, perhaps this will accelerate the destruction of videogame kind. Don't think it's happening? Just look around you. When was the last truly good Mario platformer? SM64? And what's up with the crazy Capcom and Square crap? A million sequals to FF7? The most twisted plot in all of continuity? It's all over, people. It's only a matter of time...

The Wario Land games come to mind for that second question...

As for Capcom and Square, Square is capitalizing on what people want to see more of while Capcom is establishing itself as a major player in the video game industry. If anything this is Nintendo's chance to hit Microsoft hard and fast.

Too bad I was rootin' for the PS2... and the DS, oddly enough.

Sony isn't what you'd call a multi-billion dollar corporation. And just because they have the PSP doesn't mean that they still don't have to pay for it. There's advertising, shipping, and then they have to make the games for it.

Oh, man... this reminds me of the curse of the Game boy... Every company that goes after Nintendo in the handheld Market, GOES OUT OF BUSINESS!

Atari- No longer a hardware company
Sega- No longer a hardware company
SNK- went out of business
Nokia- It's only a matter of time...
Wonderswan- Nope....
And now, Sony drowning under it's curse!
Xbox fans better tell Microsoft to NEVER make a handheld console!

Playstation 2 is NOT coming to an end. It's just they have to discontinue producing Duelshock controllers as it violates the patents of Immersion Corp.

Course, Sony is the only company that IC can go after, as:

1) From what I heard on the Flying Omelette boards, Microsoft owns about 10%, so their controllers are safe.

2) Nintendo already had the rumble feature with the Rumble Pak. I guess since they had the patents already, they could expand the Rumble Pak directly into the controller, so it may be able to avoid infringments of the patent.

Wonder if they'll go after the 3rd party makers of Sony controllers as well?

The Lynx got no support. Neither from developers, nor consumers. I don't think Atari themselves even supported the thing.

Atari was not a very smart company. At one time, there were more copies of Pac-man than there were Atari 2600s. When asked about it, the response was something like "Well, we thought people would want a second copy in their ski lodge".

I actually don't think the original Atari is even around anymore. From what I heard, they pretty much died and somebody else bought all their stuff.

Sega- No longer a hardware company
Sega's hardware bellyflop was because of business mistakes they made, not the Game Gear (although that's not to say the Game Gear was an act of genius, it was just a little icing on Sega's cake of problems).

They released a bunch of peripherals for the Genesis that left a sour taste in consumer and retailer mouths alike. And in an attempt to beat out the Playstation, they neglected to accompany the Saturn's release with games and a reasonable price tag.

While the Saturn eventually got some quality material, nobody wanted to stick around for it and the Saturn's curse got passed on to the Dreamcast.

SNK- went out of business
And then they came back. They've also done it more than once.

Quote:
Nokia- It's only a matter of time...
N-gage was just poorly thought out. A launch price even more ridiculous than the DS and PSP, a pathetic library after months of hype ("We're gonna have original stuff! Not rehashes and stuff you can get on other systems." And guess what the majority of their miniscule library is), and a poor design (you have to remove the battery to insert a game) resulted in the thing never proving itself as more than a cell phone that played games. They made an SP of sorts, but the only thing that could be changed about that is how you put the game in. They're only available at select retailers, and Wal-Mart, the 800-pound gorilla of the retail business, wasn't included.

Nokia themselves make cell phones, something everybody gobbles up like popcorn, and they probably won't be going anywhere soon.

Quote:
Wonderswan- Nope....
Could you please be consistant here? Wonderswan is the system. Bandai is the producer. Bandai also makes general toys, so probably isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

As far as I can tell, they made Champions of Norrath for the PS2. What the game is like, I don't know. I don't have access to my PS2 right now.

Time for some Video Game Facts

Did you know that:

Japanese toy company Nintendo Single handly revised the Video Game corporation from completely vanishing.

Nintendo did not start as a toy company. They made playing cards. Okay, I guess you could somehow argue that those are toys. But the point is they didn't make action figures and toy cars and so on. They made playing cards.

Also, it wasn't so much video games that crashed, just home video gaming. Arcades were doing fine after the video game crash.
