This is just a suggestion, but why not allow fan made comics? Not just from us doing the comics with sprites and everything, but typing a script...with every detail in it. Then, someone who is good with sprites, or a site staff member, can create the comic.

Just a suggestion, but I believe it may work!

For example:

Frame A
Catman: See This?

Frame B
*Close up on Catman's claws*

Frame C
Gerald: Yeah
Catman: This is where your quest ends!
From the distance: HEY EVERYBODY!

Frame D
*The Inappropriate Comedy Tree is entering the convienence store*
TICT: This is convienent!!!

Frame E
*TICT tries to enter, but his leaves get stuck in the door*

Frame F
Catman has a machine gun out, and Gerald begins to run

Frame G
gerald is out of the picture now as Catman begins to shoot

Frame H
Gerald and TICT are running as bullets fly across

Frame I
Catman stops firing
TICT: WHATS UP WITH THAT?!

But the talent of others = more comics than Jay would be putting out himself.

They can review the scripts, its not like it's gonna automatically become a comic through thin air.

That whole "script" I jsut typed was from a show.

Which is why you tweak it

Allow fans to make scripts, and have a set 3 or 4 people to review the script, and if they like it, it can be made into a comic by NC Staff.

It has nothing to do with the quality of the comix. It has to do with the fact that if Jay allowed them, he'd get so many of them. He's a very busy man, and he only has so much time (if any) to update NC. Unlike other comix authors, Jay actually is trying to do something with his life, and as such has a very limited time in which he can update (hint: there's so much he could have done over the past few months and he didn't do anything. I spoke to him via email awhile back after making the reference list on the Wiki, and he basically gave me some VERY understandable reasons as to his business. You'd know if you were a college student. And if you are, you'll understand completely. He's trying to get his degree ASAP so he can get out into the world ASAP (and have more free time to update ASAP). Jay just can't deal with it. If you can do something special (such as fan art or a flash movie), he may consider putting it up or linking to it (as he did with Brian's hand drawn comix).

If you want to put up comix, there's a forum right over there for you to put them up in. If you want to write NC scripts, you can always write fan fiction. (which I think Jay would be more inclined to put on the site). -CSM

Well, yeah, something like that, heh.

Simply put, real life things have had to have a higher priority than doing more fun things like NC.

For the last year, I've been consumed by graduate school. This is different from undergraduate college in that I have to come up with my own research and my own master's thesis. This requires a LOT of self-motivation, creativity, and time. My master's research and thesis have simply sucked out my free time and inspiration.

Before, as an undergraduate, after I was done with classes, NC was my outlet for my creativity.

But now, I have put a lot of stress on myself in doing my master's thesis (maybe too much stress), and as a result at the end of the day I end up not feeling anything left over for NC.

I spend my free time now with more mindless forms of entertainment, like Tales of Symphonia, heh.

So yeah, that's the jist of it. I still care about NC, and I'd like to see it do well. However, at this point of my life, I simply need to put other things first. So as a result, I have been busy with draining activities such as looking for potential jobs, applying to schools for next fall for my Ph.D., my never ending graduate research, and on top of all of that my classes.

Like I said, I still want to do stuff for NC. So that's why I think an idea such as yours, Andre (It is Andre, right? Heh. I hate not knowing people's original login name anymore, heh.), might not be a bad idea. I think it might be good to involve some more fan-related stuff with NC. Such as comics, or the stuff Crazyswordsman is doing with Wikipedia. I'd like to get some fans who are really interested in getting involved with NC to be more involved with the site and help me out. I think I've reached the point were I simply can't run the site on my own any more (even though I've fought against help for 8 years now, heh.)

So yeah, if any of you have any ideas for how you'd like to help out with NC, my ears are open. I'd like to hear what you have to say and I'm open to suggestions. Already I'm working on putting up Alph's remake of the Mushroom Wars, and soon I'm going to put up links to Crazyswordsman's Wikipedia articles, so that more people can visit and edit them.

Heh. What a crazy year it's been, heh. This graduate stuff is draining, since it's making me a bit depressed as well. I'm forcing myself to put all of my energy into this graduate research, and I still have the feeling that I'm not doing enough. Plus, there's my ever pathetic social life, heh. It'd be nice to get out there and meet new people, (preferably female people, heh) but it's just hard for me.

So that's the "Jay Update." Heh. And now it's late, and I should be going to bed. But yeah, interesting idea, Andre. Maybe we can build off of this idea.-jay

Amazing. Someone who can defend themself without resorting to "I can't understand what you're saying." *Leers at Glpyh.* Ironically, my rather nasty remark was more of a test than an attempt to destroy the proposal.

I was referring to a lack of sprite artists and people with good lines--you don't seem to be lacking either, but I'll get back on topic.

Good luck, Mr. Jay. I plan to get a PHD myself, after all. Perhaps I could get it in ticking people off.

Has anyone noticed that Jay has been saying "heh" more and more often now? It's gone from being a quirky little laugh at the end of his posts to being some kind of nervous tick, it seems......

I think the pressure ALWAYS gets to him. Heh. (see, Jay's not the only one who says it! I've developed a "case of the Jays" myself)

Well, we can always wait until Jay get out of doctoral school. Maybe THEN he'll be updating NC at least once a week (he'll have an 8 hour job and maybe two nights a week for a social life, that gives him PLENTY of time)

Yeah, it's Andre.

I was thinking that you should create a panel...of peopel that you trust....with taste.

Such as Codie, Sean, etc. up to about 5 or so, whoever is willing to volunteer.

People can send scripts to them or their comics. They can review them, and either pass or deny them.

However, there should be a limit of what is sent, say, if you have 5 people reviewing them, set a max of 25 per period of time (month), that can be sent in, after that 25th, they'll be shut out, until each "panel members" passes 2 of them.

After that, you have a couple of worthy....GOOD comic makers, to create the comic and then send it to Jay. That way, in let's say a month, you can get a good 10 comics in. It'd take the effort and work of a lot of people, probably a good 15 people, in due time, taking work off Jay's shoulders. And letting him focus on more important matters, more often.

Good luck with School Jay, I'll get to experience your pain in a 1 year or so. (CLASS OF 07!!!)
