Yeah, I thought BOTVGH died, too.

I seriously think this will HELP NC if anything. That description seems to be, well, for lack of a better term, not serious. Let's all just move on. -CSM

I also thought BOTVGH died. If it could stop stabbing you in the back and do more updates, I might actually read it again.

a) I over-reacted by saying that it will damage my relationship with BOTVGH, since most of the people who posted this in their livejournals are not on good terms with the community.

b) BOTVGH the site is on indefinite hiatus. An 8th (and final) season may or may not happen, depending on H Cuz's mood.

c) The BOTVGH community has been active through RPG battles in the chatroom. Battles reffed (hosted) by H Cuz usually happen Mondays and Wednesdays and battles reffed by (Neo)Kamek usually happen on Tuesdays. I have long NOT been a regular attendee and usually show up (usually for a Wednesday battle) if I have nothing else to do.

d) FYI: There are some people in the BOTVGH community I'm on good terms with (i.e. H Cuz, UDX) and their are others I want nothing really to do with (i.e. Dan, Klawkat)

Tell me where this is. Is it on IRC? I want to see it 'cause I happen to run my own RPG, as you know, and would like to see what they do, maybe even participate in it myself. The only link I could find was to an applet which hates my computer.

It is, but because of some issues in the past, the server it's on is only known to an exclusive bunch.

I would give it to you, however it might be a good idea to e-mail H Cuz and ask him for it. Just tell him I sent you.

I'm keeping my eye on this topic.

First, I don't think Jay cares that some guy doesn't like his site; I think Jay's said time and time again he's doing NC for his own pleasure, not to please the world. Second, it's Something Awful. Think for a minute about what style of humor these people are into (links are crude and NSFW). Maybe he just doesn't like (or get) NC's style of humor, which differs greatly from the SA penis and cursing-enough-to-make-a-drunken-sailor-blush method.

Where are these lemmings going? The Super Nintendo Super Shire! Hop in line and follow them there!

Yeah, I saw the Awful Link of the Day thing, and it really didn't seem too bad. Like someone already said, it doesn't look like they really did their homework when they "bashed" NC. I mean, I was almost hoping for something better, funnier, aka a real roast. But their "bash" was pretty tame. No big deal. It's kinda funny, actually.

Personally, I think it's kind of a let down. I was hoping to get a real bashing.-jay

It seems that this person fails to understand that the character's personalities are entirely made up. It seems that the cast of NC, being video game characters, are nothing but vehicles for personality and humor. As Reid said, it does seem the person making this criticism only read the title of the site.
Quote:
Great works of fiction often rely on extensive casts of characters.
...And NC has inflated the SMB characters with the personalities Jay has given them. It has the extensive cast of characters; it has its own world seperate from the Mario universe.
Quote:
Basically, every character in Super Mario Brothers is totally dispensable (in fact, they often dispense Pez).

But the idiot who runs this site clearly feels differently. His nerve-wracking eyesore of a site contains extensive biographies of all the “neglected” characters in the Super Mario universe, as well as side-splitting webcomics about them.
NC IS USING THE CHARACTERS IN THE MARIO GAMES AS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT THINGS FROM THE GAMES BY MAKING ENTIRELY DIFFERENT STORIES.
Each character in NC=/= dispensable.

Vapor: See the extensive logical proof I made on the situation. I could also probably make one on their main claim and find holes in that too.

Jay: Yeah, like I said. I pointed out fallacies because I wanted them to tell us about stuff that could be proven wrong. Then we'd know how to not be awful! XD

Gimpy: Makes sense. SSQ got its share of random jerks, though I managed to ban them all. I'll email him, indeed.

CK: Exactly why I distrust their so-called informed opinion on NC.

Dyl, you ever feel like there should be a global law requiring people to take some kind of proficiency test before being allowed online? Because many of the comments made by people under the age of college in this thread make me feel that way.

And remmeber, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Agreed.

Cap, isn't it ironic that not too long ago these same people were praising SA for the Super Mario Playset? It sure strikes me that way.

I've been to a board which requires a test be taken by all members before joining. Then they have a trial period where they get 30 posts; if they ain't approved after that, they can't post ever again.

Best. Filter. Ever. Of course, that'd be anathema to VGF, so there's not much that can be done about it.

I loved Super Mario Playset. And alot of the other stuff on Something Awful. I admit it.

BUT, If you look back to the topic, I bashed Platform Hero THERE too! My opinions HAVE NOT CHANGED. Though, I have less respect for the makers, for bashing NC, when NC's comic are 100 times better then that peice of crap Platform Hero.

I cant come up with anything better then Platform Hero. Why? Because I have a small imagination. However, that does not stop me from thinking it sucked BAD. The characters' personalities were as flat as a board. The comedy SUCKED. I'm not going to laugh at a dinosaur with a bad accent randomly sleeping every 5 minutes. That isnt humor. That's crap. The same kind of humor you'd find in PBS.

Meh, I wish BOTVGH would just come with another season. I mean, if anything, I'm sure there are a lot of members and viewers that would want to continue writing/running the site. I would.

^ The thing is, H Cuz has become very picky about quality and the majority of episodes by new authors are, apparently, VERY bad.

It is that (as well as a major case of writer's block/laziness) that has delayed the start of season 8 for the past 4-5 years.
